ArcheAge, Ultima Online's rebirth?

I'm all patched and ready to go too. First time for me. No idea what I'll be doing (traditionally play support/ranged) and have deliberately kept in the dark about the game.

Any help or recommendations would be appreciated!

Also it goes live at 5PM for Euros?

Hehehe, you are in for a very steep learning curve then ! There are A LOT of features in the game and a lot of mechanics around them and very little explanation of how to do stuff :)

New races aren't out in Korea yet. Could be a year before we see them.

Some popular classes, with good reason. They are fairly "complete" at lvl 50, while being fairly easy to play they still have a high skill lvl to stand out from the crowd.

Archer - Primeval. Archery, Shadowplay, Auromancy.

Melee - Darkrunner. Battlerage, Shadowplay, Auromancy.

Mage - Daggerspell. Sorcery, Shadowplay, Witchcraft.

These are great to get a feel for the combat with enough combos for serious damage and/or cc.

I wouldn't suggest trying a healer until the drop rate for Archeum is sorted out. You need to use Clubs with + Healing only available through crafting.

I'll be lvling with friends at launch as a Nightwitch [Songcraft, Shadowplay, Witchcraft]. At lvl 50 I'll switch to Tomb Warden [Songcraft, Defence, Auromancy] to be the groups extremely tanky Bard buffer.

I'm trying to find a VERY quick and agile class, with high, single target burst dps.

But I can't seem to get a good blend, any tips?

I've been trying to hunt down a class like the Rogue from WoW for years, Mutilation Rogue at that, god that was the perfect class for me.

so, Is this actually worth purchasing the beta to play? As it goes live tonight I am very tempted with the idea but haven't seen anything (Other than a kraken) that has made me think I MUST HAVE THIS!!!!!

How does it compare against other MMO's that are currently about?

Imo , its better than other MMOs out there , for me at least..if it wasn't, I'd be playing the other MMOs instead :)

However, its got so much in it that I would need to write a 3000 word post to actually explain it all.

I'd say watch some youtube videos, see what you think, if it doesn't grab you, then just wait for the next beta phase and get a key rather than paying anything and see if you like it first.

Not good, always either off-line or crashing at loading screen.

No way I am paying anything for this.

Cant say that's my experience , been in the Alpha for 3 months and aside from maintenance its been up pretty much 99% of the time. Did have the glitch initially where it crashed after the intro movie, but once I was past that once I've not had it again.

@Woogie

I'd suggest trying it out if you have a Beta key. You need to be lvl 20+ to get a feel for it, questing is pretty generic but getting to cap is fairly painless.

In my opinion you need to be a subscriber/patron to benefit fully. Having a house and land is important, the sandbox features are what sets it apart.

Playing in a group or organised guild is highly recommended. You can have a lot of fun solo, but it'll be slow going, and at times extremely frustrating.

I forked out the dosh for Alpha access and have no regrets. After launch I may open another Patron account.

Lol really, I bet you feel like a ass now.

The closed beta only starts at 6pm tonight, but of course you feel entitled enough that you think you deserve to get in earlier, their whole team should drop everything and get the game open and up just for you.

Is this purely a cash grab game or am I right in thinking that it has a sub option too, and if so, what makes it worth a sub compared to being a dirty freeloader?

I know I could probably find this stuff out from a variety of other sources, but I'd prefer to have the lovely folk here give me their opinion as they(mostly ;)) seem to know their onions about MMOs.

It does have a sub option, called Patron. Frankly, it makes quite a big difference, without subbing you cannot own land for farms or houses, you also have more Labour if you are a subscriber (labour is a "stat" used for doing almost everything ingame)

I'm assuming you get a stipend too.

I much prefer sub options in games but this game does have me a bit concerned as it seems so heavily monetised and aimed toward the P2W crowd.

I guess I'll be able to give it a whirl and see for myself, but I'd love to have a good sub MMO to play that didn't implode within the first couple of months.

I see so many people saying its a P2W game, and to be honest I think a lot of it is that one person has said it and then its been repeated so many times by other people that its gathered a life of its own. Personally I dont see much thats pay 2 win about the game at all. You get advantages for subbing obviously, but so you should, otherwise there would be no point in having a sub.

If I had my choice, I would make it a sub only game , with no free accounts at all, so that I didnt have to keep hearing free players moaning that they dont have x or y
