ArcheAge, Ultima Online's rebirth?

I just couldnt get into the game last night for some reason...Might give this another go tonight. I am wanting to play a tank but at the moment I am not a fan of the class

Yeah its tough going early on for the tank because they don't get platemail for a little while at the start and they don't get their most effective skills until quite late on.

I've tried Sorcerer, the assassin one (Shadowblade?) and Archer all up to the incredibly high level of 5, yes, five! so far. I actually like the stealthy rogue one best and I prefer the little Asian dudes over the foppish Elves and the dreadster Cat people.

I'll probably get lynched for saying this, but it is nice to go back to the EQ2/WoW style combat. Tera is the only get that got the action style combat right so this is like stepping back into a comfortable pair of slippers :D

You can get the Founders pack for about £65 if you search around online for Steam keys. Since it includes more than that in terms of subs and in game currency alone, it's a good deal.

So far I've found it difficult to get into. The music's dreadful in my view, like it was written in a few minutes (synth pan pipes?), and really sounds massively tacky next to things like ESO and SWTOR, as well as games like Rift and Defiance (also Trion). I haven't got into it enough to get what's best from it without a doubt, but that's a problem if a game is not pulling me in at the start like others do.

Would have maybe thought about getting it for £65, but with no invert mouse, it's just not for me, hopefully on release they add this option.

I've played it a few times, but so far game is just lacking.
Reminds me of a typical korean grind mmo, Silkroad online.
Graphics is disapointing.
Rift had better.
Music just... meh.
Un-instanced quests with over 200 people trying to progress the damn level 5 storyline.
I did not get hooked up into storyline at all.
In TESO I have finished all main storyline quests, they were interesting.
Here - kill 10 rats, kill 10 squirrels, 10 bandits and whatever else.
And combat / looting system is weird.
Example. I have attacked and killed a mob, I get loot and xp.
I have attacked a mob, then someone else attacked it and nobody gets xp or loot.
Wtf?
Again, Rift had better system.
The only 2 reasons I am going to play the game is because my friends will... and encouraged by them I bought the golden package :(

Must admit that "lacking" is not a word I think of when thinking of Archeage. I cannot think of a single other mmo which has all the game features of Archeage. I can think of a few mmos which have some of the features out of , non-instanced housing, farming, personal ships, mounts, flying, submarines, open pvp, criminal system with player trials and jail etc etc, but cant think of any which have all of those apart from Archeage.

Its a little more like the oldschool mmos, so maybe thats its appeal to me, after all , I still say that Ultima Online is one of, if not the, best MMO ever, and that didnt even have 1 quest in it :)

I think the quests are lacking as most of them were added in after the game had launched in Korea.

I'm really liking it. I didn't get the SWG comparisons early on but they're starting to shine through now.

It is one of those games where if you can de-programme from the quest grind which has populated MMOs for the last 10+ years then you can have a lot of fun with it. If you're playing it for quests and mob dropped loot it is not going to be for you IMO.

I'd agree with that, I'm lucky because for me, the best 2 MMOs ever were UO and Daoc, and neither of them had hardly any questing at all. So quests in an MMO to me are just very minor.

SWG? What a long, successful and illustrious legacy it has. /s

UO made progression organic and integral to the development of the player and your characters. It's much closer to tabletop RPGs than it is to the likes of Everquest and it's spawn.

Well I got the silver package on Thursday night and gave this a go, Got a Cultist to level 25 over the weekend and had a great time doing so.

I do not get why people are comparing Archeage to Rift in terms of graphical fidelity etc when Trion world is the dev and publisher of Rift but only the publisher of Archeage.

As for your other points. I have never had anyone attack one of my mobs and lose not get experience for it. The looting system is the same as most other games expect for the fact there is no constant trash item drops. The Graphics are stunning at times and very good at the worst of times. The skill system is different but I quite like it especially the ability to swap out skills whenever I want and swap skill trees entirely very easily.

The only point Id agree with is the music, but then I just turn it off and have spotify in the background

SWG Was amazing when it first game out and all the way up until that dreaded combat patch that just broke the game in so many ways

Personally I have to turn the music off, not just in Archeage, but in all games..because if I don't, I cant hear people on teamspeak properly. So I very rarely ever hear the music (good or bad) in any game :)

Played an Outrider in CB3, had a lot of fun! Usually find myself testing lots of different class combos in betas, but couldn't stop enjoying the class build long enough to create a new character (or switch builds).

The quests become somewhat samey after a while, but I didn't find it too much of a grind.

CB4 conveniently starting in time for the bank holiday! :)

Really enjoying this so far, Enjoying trading and manufacturing more than I am the leveling... My brother and 2 mates feel the same so we spent the last few days just building our houses and collecting mats, Got from lvl 30-35 without killing a single mob :)
