Arctic Freezer 7 or Akasa AK-960E?

Looking to replace the stock Intel cooler on my E6600 and naturally I thought about getting an Arctic Freezer 7, but I've read that it can be hit and miss sometimes whether they'll do the job effectively if you have a C2D with a curved IHS.

Then I came across the Akasa AK-960E which looks good on paper, so I wandered whether to get one of these instead.

Any thoughts on this anyone?

I can't recommend the arctic freezer 7 pro, I have re-seated mine three times and the bloomin thing won't cool my stock e6300 properly, no way can I overclock with these temps.

Skip this one and spend a few more quid on something decent

for the price u get it ,it keeps cpu temps realy good!

I don't call 54°C load temp of a stock e6300 very good. I read so may posts saying how great it was, then I install the thing and its cheap and nasty, boo hoo!

The stock cooler is looking like a better option to me right now! :o

do u run it to full load ? 2700 RPM shows me in BIOS on performance mode ! Well maybe your chip is hot :D

it might be noisy with all thouse 3000 R.P.M. !
if ya got money go for Titan Amanda http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-000-TI

I am very disapointed with the noise i get from Artic Freezer 7 Pro ,on 2700-mann noise of level is realy anoying! But dont get me wrong ,couse for the price u get it ,it keeps cpu temps realy good!
R.P.M. isn't a problem as I'd use SpeedFan to keep the noise down. As to the Titan Amanda(you linked to the AMD version by the way :) )it's way out of my price range I'm afraid :(

Your temps don't look bad to me :o The stock cooler's giving me core temps of mid 40's at idle and it's hit the low 70's under full load(TAT test).

Thanks for the input though guys

The Freezer 7 Pro is a great cooler for the money. It performs on a par with most more expensive coolers but (sometimes) at the expense of a bit of fan noise. There are many positive reviews on the 'net so don't let one or two person's bad experiences put you off.

However, if noise is a concern and you are going to overclock (and you have the budget) then a more expensive cooler may be in order.

If you have a curved IHS then it will be hit and miss with just about any cooler, not just the AC Freezer 7.

Buffalo,

What is the noise actually like? I generally leave my system on 24/7 so I like to keep noise down to a minumum! Would you recommend this cooler to go with a DS3, E6300 (ocing!) and Antec P180 case?

Any other suggestions?

I'm not overly impressed with the Freezer Pro 7. Temps of 44-47 load with the fan on full blast means that I'll be replacing it with a Tuniq Tower very soon.

i recomend the tuniq tower 120 mm if its fits in ** case. its huge ,
my oc e6300 with high voltage @ 3.3 ghz is 40 dec C max under heavy load.
20-25 idle minor load.

Is that OC safe for 24/7 useage?

Hard to describe a noise!

I have the AC 7 Pro fan control set to "PWM" and "Legacy" in the DS3 BIOS and that means it runs at a pretty constant 1060RPM. I can't really hear anything above a quiet airflow "whoosh". I can't really hear any resonant fan noise and that is including the additional 3x120mm and 1x200mm fans in my case.

I can't say it is totally silent but any noise that there is is not objectionable, to me at least. If you have it on 24/7 and sleep next to it then it is probably worth getting a Ninja and running it passively, provided you have good airflow in your case.

Is Tuniq Tower or Ninja more silent ?And whats is the RPM for thouse Fans they got ,or u have to order Fan separate ?

I picked up an Akasa 955 cooler from the local comp tech shop. This does the job for my E6300 perfectly fine. Maybe a tad noisy but it's easy to install and doesn't take up the entire case.

I get around 37C on stock at idle. Just under 50C full load on stock. When I push it up to 2.1Ghz which is as far as I can go with this motherboard then it gets up to around 52-53 at full load.

I would definitely be happy to overclock to 3Ghz with this cooler. It can get a bit noisy at full RPM but nothing too bad. I've never actually seen it run up to full RPM even at 100% CPU usage. It seems perfectly capable of keeping it to around 50C while staying at it's idle speeds of around 1000 which just provides a very quiet hum. Even while benchmarking for 30 minutes straight at 100% its only ever revved up once or twice and then only for 10 or 20 seconds until the temps dropped right down.

Very happy with this cooler.

Lol I know thats why I bought one, seriously its a very 'over rated' cooler!

You can't use it with the fan at full whack, the noise will make u ill!

I'm used to better coolers, I thought I would just be a cheap scate for a change (normally spend £30 ish on a HSF) but I regret buying this thing.

Yep payday I'll be getting a Tuniq, will lap the CPU and try that out.

Thanks for that Darg, at least I know the lower spec 955 is effective at cooling, so I might take a chance on the AK-960E.

Cheers, dagwoood.

I think you've just got very unlucky big wayne... the ACF 7 pro is a fantastic cooler, and is impressing me more the more I play with it... finally getting my E6600 to sub 40C idle and 47C max load with it clocked to 3.4gig - even before I got the cooling optimally setup I was still only seeing idle temps of 40-44C and load temps 55C max even at 3.6+gig. With the E6600 on stock I got ~30C idle temps and 40C load temps.

Only thing I would say is, some of them are very noisey, tho its not consistant... mine is quiet enough that its not heard above the other fans in my PC even when its maxed out and they are on low speeds, whereas my friends sounds like a hurricane on full speed in his otherwise very near silent PC and even on low speed its quite noticeable.
