Looking to replace the stock Intel cooler on my E6600 and naturally I thought about getting an Arctic Freezer 7, but I've read that it can be hit and miss sometimes whether they'll do the job effectively if you have a C2D with a curved IHS.

Then I came across the Akasa AK-960E which looks good on paper, so I wandered whether to get one of these instead.

Any thoughts on this anyone?

it might be noisy with all thouse 3000 R.P.M. !
if ya got money go for Titan Amanda http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-000-TI

I am very disapointed with the noise i get from Artic Freezer 7 Pro ,on 2700-mann noise of level is realy anoying! But dont get me wrong ,couse for the price u get it ,it keeps cpu temps realy good!
R.P.M. isn't a problem as I'd use SpeedFan to keep the noise down. As to the Titan Amanda(you linked to the AMD version by the way :) )it's way out of my price range I'm afraid :(

I can't recommend the arctic freezer 7 pro, I have re-seated mine three times and the bloomin thing won't cool my stock e6300 properly, no way can I overclock with these temps.
Your temps don't look bad to me :o The stock cooler's giving me core temps of mid 40's at idle and it's hit the low 70's under full load(TAT test).

Thanks for the input though guys

I picked up an Akasa 955 cooler from the local comp tech shop. This does the job for my E6300 perfectly fine. Maybe a tad noisy but it's easy to install and doesn't take up the entire case.

I get around 37C on stock at idle. Just under 50C full load on stock. When I push it up to 2.1Ghz which is as far as I can go with this motherboard then it gets up to around 52-53 at full load.

....Very happy with this cooler.

Thanks for that Darg, at least I know the lower spec 955 is effective at cooling, so I might take a chance on the AK-960E.

Cheers, dagwoood.
