AgreedI would say a pea is to big, try 'Petit poi' size.
OP here...
On installing my new rig I had high temps with my 3750k, 41ish at idle so someone suggested i reseat my chip, clean off the TIM and reinstall.
Not tried that yet, but have taken off the cooler.
I've noticed the copper baseplate of my Noctua cooler has a small surface scratch on the copper...
Can this be whats affecting my temps..is this a factor?
*Had the same cooler on my previous install and my Q6600 had similar idle temps, but that was using years old Arctic Silver which was probably past its best.

So you're now assuming lapping? Even then it's a bad idea as 2 flat surfaces under pressure would do a much better job.
