Are Dyson's still the best vacuum cleaners?

If I'm hoovering I tend to grab the Dyson, although I think ours is due a bit of an overhaul, as it doesn't seem to pick up very well these days - I remember the day we got it from Comet and were amazed at the amount of dust and cat hair it dragged out of the carpet.
If the suction has decreased, clean/replace the filters and check for obstructions in the pipes. If you still have no luck call the 0800 customer service number. That's what my bro tells people when they say suction has decreased as the customer service people will walk you through getting to the reason, they have vacuums in front of them to walk you through the process apparently.

Cheers for that, will bear it in mind. Come to think of it, I used to clean the filters 2-3 times a year and haven't done so for ages ...

Have a DC19T2. Rather heavy for what it is actually, and suction is okay at best. An absolute PITA to use though, largely because the tube comes out at an angle, not straight. Hate the thing with a passion, I'll say.

Yeah they are terrible if used with any sort of really fine dust, like the kind created by building work. The foam filter is really good at filtering out very fine dust with it being a hepa filter, but this means it clogs in seconds if sucking up a lot of fine dust.

That explains it, Cheers. :)

Miele Cat and Dog here too. Had a Hoover bagless before, not bad not great either. Mum has a Dyson currently and when it finally gives up the ghost she is buying a Miele too. First time I used the Miele on the hallway carpet I had to reduce the suction down as I couldn't move it! Yeah it needs bags (even bagless normally have some consumables) but can't say I mind, nice clean disposal and it doesn't look like a grotty dirty appliance :p

Kirby. They even have a clutch ;-) but seriously it makes my Dyson look like a toy,you can see the carpet lifting up from the floor, it will pick up half the crap, that your Dyson wouldn't beable to, but then again, its the Rolls Royce of vacuums and costs it. Must also say they weigh an absolute ton.

Never rated and never liked Dyson, parents stupid enough to buy them, broke down a lot, and sucked(well didn't) to begin with.

I still can't get behind a company who when new on the market had a advertising campaign that said, bagless system that doesn't lose suction, showing a nice chart which shows no drop in suction, but that pretty much any other hoover has WAY more suction until a bag is half full......... So if you empty the bag twice as often you'd always have a significantly better hoover. That is all I could take from Dyson, worse hoover that doesn't degrade as much if you can't be arsed to empty the bag... but pay through the teeth for it.

Got a 12 year old DC04 and its still working fine, albeit the flex hose has a few holes in from sucking up sharp things....its now the car vacum since the Mrs got one of the new ball chappies.
