Are entertainment stores like HMV redundant?

Your in HMV. The Blu-ray you want is £20. You get your smartphone out and look on play.com. It is £12.99. You order it off play whilst you are standing in HMV...

There business model is totally out of sync with reality (well their prices are at least).

While that example is very true smartphones are now making it EVEN easier.

An app that scans the barcode and then it will search the web for the cheapest price, not just one website

I did a pretty comprehensive study on this topic for my final year University project. The answer is undoubtedly yes. The popular four letter gaming store is also going to get dragged into the same mess that Virgin, Zavvi, Head and Woolworths found themselves in. When, not if.

In short and unsurprisingly, entertainment retail in the near future exists in the major supermarkets and online. Games going down the route of Steam and OnLive is going to kill off a very popular revenue stream for a good few physical and even online retailers.

This is the problem with most musicians and record stores right now.

Before it used to be like this:

Musician would make a really really good song, maybe 2, then add another 10-12 to call it an album, otherwise it would just be a single, musician and record company sell album for £20.

People started downloading music because they didn't want to pay £20 for one 1 song and 11 ****ty ones because musician was too damn lazy to work more then a day in the studio for millions of dollars.

The US and it's corrupted paid off politicians started cracking down on downloading.

iTunes and the likes were made which enabled people to legally acquire just the one or 2 songs that are actually good from lazy self entitled musician for £1 or 2. Leaving the other 10/11 songs never heard/purchased.

HMV stores still try to rip ppl off with retarded album prices that not many people buy.

HMV starts selling games and ripping off developers by selling pre-owned games. Clearly it's okay to rip people off as long as their not musicians!!

I know that makes little sense but i was just ranting.
