Are free online documentarys having an impact?

I

Now quality keeps getting better and the information seems to be more well researched, i wonder though if some of the content and subjects are starting to change the way people think about things, it used to be we mainly got our info from television and books but now anyone can make a full length video and spread new ideas and ways of thinking, obviously this isn't limited to videos but i think they communicate in ways text alone can't and i wonder what impact its having.

I've been trying to do that for years, people don't change how they think, people form there own perspective, opinions & ideals and they do not change their mind about it.

In response to any opposition of their ideals they erect defences and try to ignore it, you can almost see this underlying influence on their subconscious mind.

It's interesting you should say that as the first video talks about this, i think people can be stuck in their ways but when enough changes in society and culture thinking also has to as well, but on an individual level yeah some people have a very ego based mindset which hinders rational thinking and limits growth.

Good review/criticism of Zeitgeist: Moving Forward by my fave YouTube blogger:

I like online docs, but the trouble is they suffer from "if it's on the internet, it must be true!"-itis, where a lot of people take them as fact when they're just as, if not more factually inaccurate than something on TV.

Have just watched Zeitgeist:Moving Forward and it was possibly the most compelling message for change I have ever seen.

I searched rather than create a new thread for this, people should invest 2.6 hours of their life to watch that documentary, as it is so accurate.

That would be because changing someone's opinion and someone's ideals are two very different things. Individual's ideals are far more deep-seated than opinions as they are often a reflection of that person's character and moral framework whereas opinions are based on tangible knowledge that's always in flux.

Ideals can and do change, but don't expect a shock and awe tactic is going to work.

Yes they are; However...

Is it a positive impact? There are lots of good videos out there but there are just as many (if not more) bad videos out there that really do no good. You can just see on this forum the number of times some raving nutter is taken as gospel because he makes a good video...

On the other hand videos on TED are generally very good, done by people who know what the are talking about and backed up by hard fact not conjecture in most cases.
