Are ghosts real?

Why is the onus on those who don't believe in ghosts to prove that they do not exist?

It's not, but from the comments in this thread people seem pretty certain that they don't exist. I just wondered how they've come to that conclusion, as surely it's impossible to prove one way or the other?

I'm not going to discuss this topic anymore on this forum. Unfortunately it's pointless.

What, so you've been called out on some bull**** and now the only way to save face is to pretend you're above it all? Smooth.

Open mindedness. It does not mean what you think it means.

Can you prove the Flying Spaghetti Monster doesn't exist?

Nope, I can't prove it does or does not exist.

I'm all for Atheism but their is much about the world we dont understand or may never understand so denying any claims big or small just seems odd to me, even the slow moving chocolate icecream Dragon.

It's not being called. I've battled this topic many times and I'm no stranger to the land of mocking, especially here.

It's pointless to discuss it because 98% of people on OCUK won't even begin to accept the possibility of something intangible and spiritual. On any level. And it'll never change.

Actually thats not really odd...

It makes perfect sense to disbelieve in something when no one is able to prove it is real and you havent seen one for yourself. I would consider that normal rational thought.

What is odd... Is people that believe in something when neither they nor anyone else can prove their existence and they actually haven't seen one for themselves.

Which to you is more odd?

The fact that there is no scientifically accepted proof FOR the existance of ghosts acts as evidence that they are not real.

The whole question of "how can you prove they aren't real?" is as ridiculous as the proposition of the question "how can you prove god isn't real?" Basically, if such a concept had never been expounded you would never be to this day curious as to whether or not the "big man" exists.

It's all a bunch of tosh to do with peoples insecurities at not being able to explain "why". We can not yet explain with factual authority the whole reason for existence because we are incapable of finding out such knowledge as of yet.

And ghost stories have their origins in norse and anglo-saxon folklore anyway. Which, having derived from such a period in the existence of human life (EDIT: existence is more appropriate), it is reasonable to deduce that the likelihood is that such "sightings" were described as spiritual beings because there was no otherwise scientific explanation for such phenomenon.

I don't believe in ghosts.

What I could believe in is the barrier between parallel universes, and ours, breaking down enough for glimpses to be seen.

There was a thread (that I cant be bothered to find) that had REAL PROOF of paranormal activity. It had moving boxes, a chair that spun and some falling over stuff and there was definitly NO WIRES. Some guy in his basement made the video because thats where all ghosts go to hang out and move small objects for a bit for fun. ITS REAL.

I would like to think they exist but I don't think they do.. I remember my friends mother told me they were flicking through their photobook one day that she saw her grandfather appear and her daughter backed it up. But this was when I was around 10 years old and no they're not on crack.

I've never seen a ghost personally.

Also I've heard it plenty of times but how come there nearly always ghosts of humans. Where are the herds of ghost cows trampling through the world?

Ghosts also like to stand behind special people whispering very quietly so the special person keeps getting stuff wrong until they get something right and then when the loved one is given a message it's usually nonsense.
For instance dead Einstein told his wife 'Don't forget your umbrella when you go out'.
Those pesky Ghosts.
