So I was looking at 12 month sim only plans.
Requirements are:
minimum 100 minutes
minimum 300 texts
minimum 500mb internet

o2:
£16.50 p/m
300 minutes
Unlimited texts
500mb data

T mobile:
£7.66 p/m
300 minutes
300 texts
500mb data

3:
£10 p/m
300 minutes
3,000 texts
1GB data

I've been on o2 for a while (currently pay as you go) and would prefer to stay with them as my parents both get unlimited o2-o2 calls, but what's the deal with this pricing?!

Depends on how much you use and who has the better signal where you are. I have their pay and go simplicity for my iPhone and I get less than I did with Three, but better reception so they won out.

same here, me and the gf have just taken out new contracts so we shopped around and 02 prices where ridiculous, the retention guy wasn't interested then the day the gf got her gs2 on vodaphone they try and beat the price, but offered only a 24month contract with the total cost higher!

its the same with other o2 plans i think :/ im looking at new contracts and o2 is typicaly the most expensive :(

This is a direct shift from them to go after the... lets say "more economically viable" customers. It was done after an assessment of where they wanted to be in the market and the pressure coming from the lower end of the price range where they were getting nibbled at by tesco et al. I suspect a lot of O2 customers where close to neutral in terms of return for them considering some of their plans over the years.
