Needing to replace my corsair 500w power supply. Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the psu.

Seasonic. I believe all full Japanese capacitors.
Superflower. I believe all full on main board, then Taiwanese on the back.

The NZXT E650w should be considered as well. It's built by Seasonic and is a modified Focus Plus platform with added DSP so you can use NZXT's CAM software to see what components are drawing from the psu. Even I would be interested in seeing that. It has a 10 year warranty and is on offer at the moment for £89.99. Review of the 850w version here.

Just a small observation between Seasonic and Superflower.

If you visit Superflowers website there is no MTTF data, at least I can't find it, where as Seasonic publish theirs.

I'm sitting on a faulty SF that other have tested and believed fine. My mobo decided to start rejecti g it.

It turns the fan off until the psu hits a certain load or temperature. I would personally stick with the normal mode with the fan on all of the time but that's my preference.

I just bought the same psu.

Fan is very quiet.
I can't hear it at idle.

Also quiet at load (I bought the msi airboost so it's a bit hard to tell over the gpu noise in games)

Is that because the fan is off or is it running constantly. I'm tempted because the 550W Seasonic Focus Plus Platinum is only £75.

That's with the fan turned on.

Obviously it's silent when it's off

I think the fan less mode is to preserve fan life more than anything.

I just checked again.

On the desktop I can't tell the difference between psu fan on and off.

Gpu fan is off and the loudest thing in my case is a wd blue hdd and a few 120mm fans at <800rpm
