Are some people luckier than others?

I was just thinking this.. Is there such a thing as luck?

Take for example 2 men, both living the exact same life in different parts of the world. One of the men has everything go right for him all the time, and the other one has bad luck all the time.. Is the person with good luck more lucky than the other one?
 
How can it be same life in different part of the world ?

Need examples, and real ones.

But I think you'll find that most people who does well is because of hard work and made their own luck. The only true lucky ones are lottery winners.
 
Luck is Point of view based, some poeple win stuff some dont, so I guess you could say yes some poeple are lucky, but you have to be in it to win it
 
You might say someone is unlucky but they are not really.

Being hit by a car, in some circumstances :p, would be unlucky. But no one says "God im so lucky, i managed to cross the road twice today". Think you getting where im going with that.

but I bet theres someone in the world whos won like manyyy manyy competitions and survived some hectic crashes and generally being really lucky.. This person is luckier than someone else, but cant actually be luckier as luck is random?!? lol
 
I like to believe you make your own luck

But after the last few weeks it sometimes seems that other people get all the luck :p

Essentially if you are positive and aim to shape your own World then more often than not things will go right for you, from the outside it might be indistinguishable from luck but "the harder I work the luckier I get" - Samuel Goldwyn/Thomas Jefferson (depending on who you believe said it first in that form).
 
I'm sure scientists recently defined luck as a point in time 'when preparation meets oppurtunity', which in fact seems to make sense.

So if you want to be more lucky, you need to be more prepared, and create more oppurtunities for your self.

That also makes sense as well.

That makes perfect sense, lets say someone bumps into a old friend who just started a new company and want to hire you to head up one of the department. Sure that's lucky to have a friend like that, but you also got to have the experience and know how to do such a job and know that friend well when you were younger.

shrug. sure I read this in an article about scientists or something a while back...
 
The previous quote which defines luck as, 'when preparation meets oppurtunity,'is a good one.

But what about events/situations you have no real control over. In these cases i think there is such a thing as 'luck,' because what other descriptive word can you use. But i think it can be both good or bad.

For example, the winner who just guesses numbers at random and wins the lottery!

The person who has had the same numbers for years and doesn't enter them on a winning night!
