im still annoyed we didnt get the World Cup and i think its mainly due to the Olympics. World cup == makes money. Olympics == way to show off and cripple the country with debt.

The Olympics is far too Londoncentric. Take for example the plan to site the Olympic rings on Edinburgh castle. Did we welcome it with open arms because It's the Olympics?!
Did we hell! We told the to GTF with their silly rings.
Incidentally they cost a reputed £200k, think what that could have done for local sport and clubs instead ofnbeing ****ed away on meaningless gestures.
Oh yeah, and about 90% of the Olympic football tickets up here are unsold. Wonder if they will give em away to school kids to reduce the empty echo at Hampden?
And how about the money we are spending on TWO aircraft carriers we won't even be able to use for god knows how long. If the argies ever wanted the Falklands back, now's the time as I doubt we have anything to stop them with.

For the Olympic opening ceremony there had better be some aliens and some kind of space travel considering it's costing £80m...I thought everyone just walked around in a circle with flags, which seems good enough for me.

Two nice things to say about seb coe though, A) he opened the gym i attend, B) diadora have just reissued the trainers he plied his name to back in the 80's.

don't know if this has ever been tried ? I do know that if i presided over a project in such a slipshod way I'd be out on my ear quicker than you could say JSA here we come.
it is pure gross incompetence, from (i assume) numerous people. seriously, when they're thinking this stuff up, does no one ever say ''hang on''?
as you said. if you are i treated company finance/budget in such a blasé manner, we'd be out the door faster than we could say 'think tank'.

but everything is being built in London yet we are all being taxed. why should my family (who live in lincolnshire) pay for something that will not help us 1 bit?
to be honest if you live outside london it is annoying seeing how much money goes straight south and very little is spent up here.

I think its a case of the perception of tax payers money being the never ending pot, so government projects that go way over budget are not really seen as a big issue because over a period of x years the money gets recouped through taxation ?
Either way its extremely poor budgeting and project managing skills in full effect. Moreover because going over budget doesn't really have the same effect as it would for a Plc. there are no real repercussions other than a few ministers made to look like asshats who would then be sacrficed or made to fall on their swords so governments can save face.
