well my 5th 360 has started to give up the ghost, it has just started freezing with graphics corruption on boot now, looks lik ethe start of the RROD. After getting one on launh day, within the first year I had 3 that developed the same RROD. This one has lasted a few years so cant complian that much I suppose.

Dont know wether to risk buying a new one or wait a few months, there must be a revised version due this year sometime.

In the meantime I have ordered the £5 X clamp kit off the bay, got my 360 in bits waiting for it to arrive. cant do any harm to try I guess.

Trust me, it is like a night and day difference between the Xenons and Jaspers.

The Xenons run hotter than the sun, hotter than Onkyo receivers even. :)

The Jasper you put your hand on the top and it is so cool you will think its not even turned on.

It runs cooler so the fans are quieter, and in the summer you don't feel like you are being barbecued.

Yes the newer rev Jasper consoles (late 2008 manufacture onwards) are seemingly fine. I've not read of any major failures and indeed, failures actually seem to be down to acceptable levels now.

The design fault it still there, however the heat generated by the smaller nm CPU and GPU is far less so the fault is less likely to occur.

So to answer your question, yes they're more reliable.

The heat the comes out of my Jasper when at full pelt can best be described as lukewarm...and on some games it just puts out cool air.

I have owned both a launch Premium and a "Jasper" Elite and can confirm that the Elite (2008 mfr date) was not only a lot cooler but also much quieter with regard to both fan noise and dvd drive

i had a launch day core for 4 years which was pretty loud, it carved and i bought a jasper which is very quiet. you can hear it and the fans are louder than the ps3 slim sat next to it; however the ps3 is louder when in use to the disc activity (xbox game installed to hdd)

in reference to Anth's Onkyo omment, my 606 is hotter than my gas fire :)

well fitted the X clamp kit and still RROD, tried reseating it 3 times and nothing so I guess its knackered for good :(

Time to get a new one it looks like

According to Hotukdeals you can get the Arcade for £99 from a certain store I wont mention here.

But it will be the Jasper and for that price would recommend all Xenon owners do the upgrade.

The Jasper Arcades come with 512meg of onboard memory which can be handy.

Have a youtube for the xbox 360 oven fix, it sorted mine out and 2 others that I have done this too.

just ordered a brand new elite jasper. console, and brick only for £125.
