Are the new Xbox 360s quieter?

I have an Xbox 360 manufacture date December 2006, and the disc drive/internal jet engine is louder than any others I've heard, what are the newer ones like?

Think BenQ ones are not so loud but i wouldnt know I got an LG/Tosh and it aint bad tbh onlytime i hear it is during the game loading up

Mine is a BenQ and it's louder than the 2 I had before it

Hitachi's drives tend to spin up and stay at the level, samsungs tend to spin up and drop off then spin up again when reading more data from the disc. BenQ seems to be same as Hitachi and just spin up constantly. Also my newish falcon with BenQ drive is starting to make some right clunky dvd drive noise when opening and closing dvd drive and its only about 3 months old.
MS really, really, really need some quality control on their next system and some sound testing experts!

Hence no they are not any quieter - nice console - shame about the hardware!

Mines a couple of months old, and the noise isn't enough to bother me, even when watching films on it.

Mine is pretty loud but I just crank the volume higher. Don't watch DVD's in though, whats the point when I have a PS3?

my 2 yr old xbox died last week - yesterday i got my falcon chipset premium console

only visual differences are a different shape to the disk tray on the drive and the hdmi port

but there is a massive reduction in the noise of the machine
and it is a big difference - very noticable

I got a standard xbox on saturday and it's pretty noisy. I do find the permanent disc spinning noise a bit annoying. Wear headphones any way though so don't tend to notice it much. Will have to check when it was manufactured.

They are quite noisy, mine is an Elite with a BenQ drive, my friend has the same, but im not really bothered by it, I have a DVD player to watch dvd's on, and so if im on the 360 it's for games, in which case, crank that volume

I have had 2 - an older one wiht Samsung drive and newer on with Benq

not a lot in it - the newer one is a tad bit quieter - but really not much in it
