Sold my xps system I was going to use for train simulator 2021 and railmaster software and now I want to get a mini pc to mount to back of screen I was using to do the same thing. Only thing is the 710 just about coped with train sim and thats not just in career, I mainly use the editor.

I'm not saying anything about costs, Im just trying to find out if there is a decent mini pc with capable performance?

Thanks for replies I will take a look in to those. I did think ryzen based as they usually have the better graphics, but intel variants seem to be more popular and I suppose for what I'm asking I will be looking at a minimum of 300-400 quid for something decent which makes intel more appealing.

Sorry...... you lost me at train simulator

Ok? I'm a hobbiest, I have a model trains etc and a train setup, I even make stuff on my 3D printer, I like simulator games and obviously train ones are really interesting to me, which is why on the same device I will have the railmaster software for when I get the elink device.

10th Gen intels have the UHD 630 chips, these appear to be 50% quicker in games.

But the newest 11th gen have either UHD 730 or 750, which are even more powerful

If it has expansion you could consider something like a 1030 or 1050 ti, which will be so much faster than on board. Likely to fit in a SFF pc and doesn't need additional power. I've used a 1050 ti for a while in my HTPC for light gaming. If you can get one around £100 you wont be falling foul of the inflated prices too much.

Keep in mind that you'll want to buy some decent RAM to get the most out of an iGPU. Running it with slow stuff or in single-channel will kill your performance. They scale pretty much linearly with memory bandwidth.

Personally, I'd just pick up a used 750 Ti for £50-60 and call it a day. It'll run rings around any iGPU. /edit/ Although if you want something really tiny then I guess any discrete card will be too large.

The Ryzen 3 4300GE has a impressive onboard gpu. I used one in a build for my wife and was very impressed with it. It's a 4 core 8 thread cpu wjich isn't a problem for TS2021 as it's mostly single threaded anyway. It is a 35w cpu as well so low power draw and pretty cool running. The onboard graphics is massively more powerful than anything Intel has. Fast memory is a must to get the best out of them.

Thanks for the replies.

I havent ruled out building like an itx system for example, but as this just has 2 purposes and will be where my train stuff is I do have a limited amount of space which is why I thought of a visa mounted device and dont want to be spending too much if I can help it.

The TS21 ran fine as far as the q6600 went, so I guess I don't need anything too fancy as pretty much anything modern would be better, it's just the graphic side of things. I've still got my 710 as I won't sell it being generally useful, but obviously an upgrade is needed. I dont know how well TS21 is optimised, but obviously it runs silky smooth on my laptop.

Just a quick update.

Tomorrow I am picking up a lenovo ideapad flex 5 2 in 1 with ryzen 4700u which is replacing my gaming laptop and given the chosen type I will likely use that for the time being in regards to this topic till I decide what I'll do.

It wasn't intended for gaming use, but being an APU ryzen I will test it a little still.
