Are you afraid of death?

Interesting replies.

The original post should probably be rephrased, or extra questions asked;

Are you afraid of being in a situation where you know you aren't going to survive?
Would you actively put yourself in dangerous situations, where your demise is statistically greater?

I dont fear death itself, my brain has a lovely way of showing me things i dont want to see most days about my loved ones. I think the only thing i fear is having to suffer a slow death due to some condition or being immobile due to back problems and other aches and pains i have that seem to only be getting worse. I think if that did happen, i'd become an hero.

As a Believer in Jesus Christ our lord, no I dont fear death, I just am afraid when I get judged, the life Ive lead will not be good enough
When I looked into Christianity many years ago, I couldn't help but notice that the Bible and actual church teachings do not go hand in hand. The Bible seems to paint a picture of Jesus worshipping God, clearly differentiating himself from his Creator, time and time again, whereas the church teachings are all a jumbled mess telling you 3 is 1 etc and you're told quite a lot to just have faith when things make no rational sense. Then when you look at the actual history of Christianity and the emperor Constantine, what the early church fathers believed, the Council of Nicea etc you start to get a clearer picture of what happened. Many early Christians didn't believe Jesus was God, when the pagans moved over to Christianity they merged a lot of the beliefs together.

I do envy you. It must be amazing to Truely believe that there is something after death. I mean to truly believe it.

Wish I did!
Not sure if most people feel that way. Given the choice they'd rather to do what they want, when they want with no one to question them. Everyone has a god at the end of the day, we all worship something, be it money, science, your desires, your ego etc. I work with an avid Shef Wed fan who does her weekly pilgrimage to away games and dedicates most her life to following them around everywhere they go. I've rarely seen anyone so committed or dedicated to anything than she is to her team.

I do envy it for sure.
I do also envy people with simple fulfilling lives.

I hate my mentql health issues and how my brain is over analytical, always needs evidence etc.

If someone says intelligence (ie maths etc, not social) or ignorance (ie just go about day today oblivious) I'd choose the latter!

As I said to a previous poster, a lot of people who want evidence or proof don't even know what they are looking for so it may be right infront of their faces, for their entire life!

We can only view the world with the tools we've been given and each of us are on our own personal journey. The truth still remains the truth. How close to it do we actually get though during our short time on this planet, that will be the question.

Religion fascinates me more and more....

How some people that are literally raised from birth "indoctrinated" into one, parrot fashion learning books and being told this its fact and everything you do and say should comply to these rules..... being forced into praying X times a day to fit into the club, not wanting to stick out so going along with it completely, literally knowing no better, until they either rebel and free themselves or become completely subdued by it.

Just because we don't know something and it isn't provable by current science does not mean god....
I'm literally more inclined to believe in a race of Aliens being responsible for earths evolution than a god, who ever she maybe...
I am extremely happy to benefit from the morality and "decency" that European christianity and some other Abrahamic religion has handed down to me/us.
But to think that any man found 2 stone tablets, or had a book dictated/spoken to him by a literal god.......
ill use my favourite blasphemous phrase.

"Jesus wept"

I'm fortunate enough to have lived a fulfilling enough life that if I was on my death bed this afternoon, I wouldn't have any regrets.

Some people think I have a death wish as I do a fair bit of free soloing, but it's no more dangerous than driving a car tbh!
