Out of interest, why are 'likes' so important? I always see youtubers trying to get people to like them on Facebook, but I can't see why that would help them in any way.

What I don't get though is that facebook sell the data on what people 'like' as a market research tool (I think, at least indirectly). Surely if people are only 'liking' things to win competitions it screws that market research data up?

Not really, as people that like OCUK for prizes tend to like pcs, and people liking competition pages in general, just shows that you may be interested in winning prizes or gambling which is still a market.
