Canon S3is or Fuji s9600

Canon I've played with, takes very nice photo's. Don't like the way it feels and hate the way the zoom works on it. Also doesn't do raw unless I use a firmware hack.

Fuji, love the way it feels, better EVF, like the manual zoom ring, remote release port, has no image stabilisation - not sure how much of an issue that is to me though...

I've spent ages looking at photo's taken by the Fuji on the web, some are great, a lot are rubbish, now wether that's down to the user is another matter entirely. I know the canon does good sharp photo's as my boss has one that I've used.

All I need is one great set of photo's taken on the Fuji and I know where I'd be going... lol.

I did consider a DSLR but when lenses are taken into account I just cannot afford it to get similar ranges to either that of the canon or fuji.

Has anybody used both? Or does anybody have any links to images that may sway me either way?

Thanks :)

Don't think either will disapoint you, the IS comes in handy at the long end of the zoom as any slight movement of the camera will translate into a big one in the image giving you some blur.

If you really don't like the way the s3 feels then I wouldn't buy it as it will probably annoy you I'd always go for the comfy model as you want to enjoy taking pictures not find it a chore

Photo's taken on a Fuji s9500 by a complete noob, I believe the s9600 is a slight improvement on this.

I had decided against the 9600 because of the lower zoom and the lack of IS. The S3, with the exception of the lack of RAW support without that hack, seems to be a great little camera, and I really would have gone for it (using buttons for zoom is a pain though) had I not come acorss the 350d. That's me saving up then :p
The video feature on the S3 is great as well.. I know which I prefer

Ive got a 9500s and the manual zoom is priceless, id never used a manual zoom on my previous camera (konica minolta z3) and not having to nudge the zoom in and out several times to get exactly where you want to go is great. the 9600 is the same camera for all intents and purposes (except the marginally larger screen) the only down side is lack of IS, at nything over 1/30 the shutterspeed negates it anyway and for anything less Im buying a new tripod. startup speeds and range of features on the fuji cameras will keep anyoe busy playing with them for a very long time, ive bought a couple sets of 2700 batteries and they are lasting the pace easily, ive taken a hundred pics or more and because the zoom is manual its not wasting battery power. My old z3 only lasted half the time. Cameras are quite personal so whatever you end up with will be after a fair amount of deliberation and trial and error.
