Argh My Ipod is dead

ok it was working last night now it wont switch on and it wont connect to my pc
any1 know how to fix that without sending it away

What generation Ipod?
How do you connect it? USB or F/W?
Does it charge from the charger?
Can you hear any clicking noises etc...?
How old, have you replaced the battery at all?

Have you tried to reset it?

does it give you an error sign when you switch it on (folder, battery, sad face etc).
