So i've recently renovated a house and being an IT geek obviously cabled the place until it purs like a kitten... I finally decided to connect my main PC upstairs to the net so cracked on.

I've got 5 rooms with 4 Cat5 cables running to each, all terminating in my study - so 20 cables in total.

Now whilst i'm waiting to pick a presentation panel up to terminate all of these cables I temporarily wanted to connect the living room to the study. I connect the four port socket and terminate the four connections, and then proceed upstairs with the very tedious task of terminating each of the 20 connections onto another four port face plate until I find the four wires coming from downstairs. (Yes I probably should marked up at the time of laying the cables but **** happens)

On I go, wire by wire... running up and down the stairs moving the connection from the router port by port each time dismayed that I had to terminate another four (cursing my luck that I couldn't hit them first time!).... until I reach the last four. Little bit scared here that either my termination downstairs was crap or that some of the wires were battered under the floor boards. Still no connection :(

Bearing in mind the above in total took about 45 minutes - 1 hour... I ran downstairs to re-terminate the plate in the living room only to notice whilst doing it the first time I had bloody took the plugs out so I had more room :(... the plugs also powered the modem which I was using to test the signal upstairs!

Luckily the second batch of four I terminated on the second attempt worked :D - not so bad luck after all, more just being a retard.
