Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon

graphics pretty good but not cutting edge, really blurry until you turn off some of the extra settings. The game balance is typical from software all over the place on release. 95% easy no issue then massive difficulty spike boss. Feels pretty much mech soulsborne

Tried this out but don't think it's for me, I'm more of a proper story driven game player, the missions all feel kind of episodic with a pre-mission spiel and a post-mission spiel, and it seems to want you to replay them and all the training bits to get gear/credits for buying upgrades.

Game play was otherwise not bad, I didn't hate it, but nor did I really love it either, as someone who hasn't played any mecha games I wasn't really sure what to expect.

Was worth a try going in fairly blind though!

The enforcer boss in chapter 4, was the first time that felt like I hit a wall. I went to go grind other missions because it was so frustrating. I did all the arena challenges to get as many OS tuning upgrades as I could. I replayed missions to buy more parts, so i had variety to mix and match after dying to him. He is such a hard boss.

If you haven't got to him yet, You have a nice surprise waiting for you. Good luck.

I relied on stunning him as quickly as possible and then trying to lay into him with the blade.
I use the Bad cook because it allows me to reliably hit him when he isn't stunned (Wide fire angle, constant stream attack and good range). This is important because, if you're not hitting him his ACS meter will reset. He moves way too fast for other weapons and even with the Nachtreiher arms target tracking is a nightmare.
Assuming you are doing damage with the bad cook, you should build up a small amount of ACS. The Dual Morley if fired simultaneously will almost always stun him if you are close enough. You need to find the right moment though or it is a waste and you're a sitting duck.
I felt like the blade had a quicker attack time than the other melee weapons I had.

You could probably use the compact tank tread to bolster your defense but to me it felt like certain moves just needed to be dodged and tanking them didn't work.

small tip, not all stuns are equal for some reason. I won't spoil too much, I've got to leave something for you to experience :D

Give the older mech warrior games a try they have stories and a lot more sim like like mechwarrior 4 and 3 but they really show their age now :)

Got my arse absolutely handed to me last night by the dual AC/MT mechs! Thought i was done and was about to walk away until cut scene and bam, took one right up the bum!

From what I've read online, it seems this game is similar to Nier automata, in that to get the full experience you need to complete the game multiple times. For those who don't know, in Nier Automata you needed to complete the game 5 times to get the true ending.

Some more info on this, that I've just seen on reddit about the second and third playthrough

NG+ introduces:

  • New missions
  • New decisions in old missions
  • Some old missions have new additions
  • New story elements to go with the missions
  • New rewards
  • New arena opponents
  • New bosses
The 3rd playthrough is especially spiced up and a must play. I don't wish to go into details, but there are significant story changes/additions.

Does anyone know when the preorder AC parts are normally unlocked?

Almost talked a mate into buying after he saw me but I'm still using those parts and they were a reasonable upgrade over the starting set.

The ending boss of chapter 4 is currently my favourite boss fight of the series. The attacks pattern has a distinct timing and you really need to be precise with your dodge timing to avoid damage.

This is the first boss that I noticed that has very obvious input reading. I think some previous bosses may have had it as well in hindsight. I won’t say what is being read by the AI for those that want to discover it themselves, if you don’t care you can see that in the spoiler below.

Missiles, missiles, missiles. Literally on all weapon slots. Or anything that self tracks after being fired

This boss input reads your right and maybe left arm fire button and will dodge any single shot weapon. Continuous shot weapons aren’t great due to the fast movement speed.

Maybe up close and personal Gatling guns could work with a tank build but I didn’t try it.

Another word of warning. Most enemies shoot where you are. This is the first boss that I noticed who shoots where you are going to be. This is where Dodge timing becomes key.

I wasn’t going to rush but I’ve been soo intrigued by the story that I keep going straight to the next mission.

The latter half of chapter 4 and chapter 5 ramp up the difficulty another notch.

Not sure how many goes it took me to get this guy but I was always so close. Took a break and then breathed through the fight. :D

I'm at the final mission of chapter 2, calling it for the night though.

Really enjoying the game although don't have any real interest in the pvp side. Looking forward to newgame+ to see what changes.

think I'm at the end of chapter 3 now. Only the chapter 1 boss really gave me issues, the chapter 2 boss went down really fast and all the arena fights get slaughtered so far going full plasma

think I need to prep myself for the chapter 4 bullsh*t boss :p just need it down before starfield is out

Dual shotgun and double missiles is the way to go for a lot of bosses and especially arena matches! I've rinsed some bosses like this, especially the bigger bulkier bosses... just stay a float above them, it's like they can't react or do anything and just continually allow you to shotgun them at close range lol. So satisfying.

If you manage to get a arena match boss into a corner, its game over for them. Dual shotgun will continually stagger if you fire them one after the other.

Got a new PS5 controller, and it turns out being able to assault boost is quite essential in this game :p.

For people who aren't aware, pulse guns (I know of only two atm and they are both arm weapons), hard counter pulse shields. You are gonna need this fact.

check out the RISE 4.0 Remap Kit for ps5 Controller, adds programmable back buttons to the standard controller. I've set the back left to square and back right to x so can evade and jump with all fingers still on the triggers

Are there rewards for S ranking missions? I know LogHunts give you equipment.

Have been running one shotgun and the pile bunker melee as primaries although I'm only in act3. The melee's tiny range is frustrating at times though. Alongside 8vertical missiles and a songbird for when extra oomph is required :D

I can’t play with 4 fingers on the trigger. But thanks for the suggestion.

A sense of pride and accomplishment. :D

Also you get an achievement for it. I don’t know if there is a special parts unlock to go with it.

argghhhh that darn spider boss :S
What’s causing you frustration in particular?
