Confirmation, or advise on this one really.

Been running an Artic Freezer on a C2D box for a couple of years now. een happy as larry with it to be honest, tad concerned about the temps, but still within safe limits I recon.

SpeedFan shows them up as CORE0=62 / CORE1=60
This is with Folding on both cores as well however, so both cores at 100% load 24/7

Now, I have been given a titan Vanessa, it looks a monster, so stuff that, I have just spent hald th night stripping my box down, cleaning it all and chucking the Vanessa on, and gettign it back up to speed and I notice something I am not too happy about!!!

CORE0=60 / CORE1=59

Am I right in assuming that the only difference in temps when going from a £11 cooler to a £40 one, is 1 or 2c?

Oh, its now at 62/60, so thats 0c then?

----

Ok, for yonks, I have based my temps on TEMP2 in Speedfan. This has seemed to me, to be a fairly acurate base on the CPU temps and it gives acceptably reliable temps on all my systems.

The temps on this, has indeed dropped, from 53-55c down to 43-44c nearly 10c

Thats looking better is it not?

Also if you're getting consistenly high temps using multiple coolers, you might have a concave CPU. You could try lapping both the CPU and the HSF and see if that helps at all.

How big is the OC on the chip? (and what Voltage)

Had thought of that last year...
I have used a metal rule and it seems perfectly true.

I would think that the HSC would iron out any small "Issues" however... I wil have a check later on to be sure.

It's not like a Artic Freezer is a bad cooler to start with , High Quality heatpipes rated at 150w but the rest of it is cheaply made thats all.

No, I agree....To a point.

I have a few Artic Freezers.

I got 2 types for the AMD64's and the yare fine... Even for some clocking, they do the job fairly well ( Not too much clocking however, and as long as the case cooling is also up to it ) and this is why I opted for one with the C2D.

However, might I also add, that I have a P4 3.6 System here too, that I had put the Artic to, but was promptly terrorised by the temps that I achieved once I started going over 4.3Ghz

But for stock and mild clocking you cannot go wrong... Not for the price anyway

Only issue I have is the fitting on the LGA775 ones... It works, but you get the feeling that its about to pop off any moment.

Which Titan vanessa is it? There were two versions one called the type-L which has a 120mm fan and then the type-S which only has a 90mm fan. If your running the type-L (like me:D) then those temps are a bit poor. I understood folding to be about 80% load compared to prime and with an e6400 at 3.1 on stock volts orthos load temps are 51C. Thats with the fan at its lowest setting on the controller that comes with it and the rest of my case fans undervolted.

Yeah, the "L" Type... 120mm job.

Controler?
No, not used the controler. I do have it, but InSanCen has give me a fairly good collection of completely massive and totally over the top coolers ( and people wonder how he hit No3 on Air with an XP17 on Wescott's table ) and I had assumed that the controler was to do with some other cooler and so I have not used that at all ( Even though the box clearly shows the controler and the controler is here and it goes with nothign else!

Folding.
No, Folding takes up 100% of unused CPU time. In fact, my CPU is running 100% capacity 100% of the time and I notice absolutely no slowdown at all, so the way it works is pretty fantastic actually... Does the same with however many cores you have, but not a good idea for HT CPUs because they are simply cruddy CPUs.

Ok, I have been running the system without Folding, and I am at 39c right now...

I will just re-start folding on 2 cores and... well after a short tim, its floating around the 49-51c levels.

So, the temps loaded seem to be around the same as yours then? - 51c!

I notice on this system, Im also using an X1900XT. Mine is passively cooled with a... Hell, an X1 or X2 or whatever!

yeah looks about right then, i thought you were saying temps were nearer 60 and not "fully loaded".

I've still got the stock jet-turbine cooling x1900xt, got a beautiful EK block sitting here ready for it though :D.
