Ok, I know ASDA has been mentioned in the odd thread but I can't see a thread specifically for it. Anyway for those of you wondering what i'm talking about, ASDA mobile now do a seriously cheap PAG SIM both in-store and on their website that has the following charges:

  • 47p for the SIM
  • 8p per minute any mobile network in the UK
  • 4p per text to any mobile network in the UK
  • 20p per MB data used within UK
  • Uses Vodafone network, so 99% coverage

For international calls it's as follows within EU countries:

  • 35p per minute for calling any country in the EU
  • 15p per minute for receiving a call while roaming outside of the UK
  • 140p per minute min for calling a country outside of EU
  • 42p per text sent outside of UK
  • Free to recieve texts outside of UK

Full info available on the website here: http://www.asda-mobile.com/

For anyone looking for a cheap PAG for exclusive UK use this surely beats the **** out of anything else... from what I can see it's half price or less than any other PAG provider such as o2 or Orange! I'd like to see a 1 pound a day max internet charge instead of 20p per MB but hey... you can't have everything. :D

For me this is great as i've been using a cheap o2 SIM-plicity tarriff for the last 8 months simply to keep hold of my number that i've had for 10 years... but now i've just ordered 2x ASDA SIM's from their site (one as an emergency spare) and will port my number accross so that it costs me nothing to keep it handy.

ASDA really are starting to gain a lot of respect from me now... if you check their site they are muscling into a LOT of different areas including electronics and furniture at very competetive pricing, and as for whether this ASDA mobile is a safe bet... well lets just say that Wal-mart are in no danger of going bust any time soon.

Hope some others get some use out of it too, even if it's just as a spare emergency SIM. :)

I worked for ASDA many moons ago - and have always been waiting for them to start expanding with the help of the WalMart group.

Cheers for the update on these, might be worth a look for a emergency sim. :)

Asda mobile is going to start a rice war.

I wonder what Vodafone are thinking as a company piggy-backing on their network is cheaper than they are?

This can only lead to good times for the consumer and cut margins for the Telecom players.
