Surely it's the components and rare metals inside that most of these phone recyclers are interested in?!? Not whether it's been rooted.
I've sold two of my old mobiles to these recycling companies and all they cared about was if it A, Turned on, and B, that the screen wasn't smashed. They didn't even care if the case was scratched or not.

My S2 was sold to ASDA no problem, still had custom boot animation etc. I never used the jog to reset flash counter either.
If the phones work, they sell them on to developing countries etc. It's only the broken ones that get broken down for parts.
