Just bought one of these motherboards and i'm having problems with the pci slots.
Put everything together and switched on and got a d6 error, wouldnt boot into the splash screen, checked everything was connected properly and tried again but still no boot.Decided to remove the sound card just to try and hey presto it booted.Installed windows 7,shut down, put sound card in and no boot.

If i put my soundcard in any pci slot the pc will not boot. When i remove the sound card the pc boots.I have tried two different cards which i know to work and have the same problem.

I tried using the onboard graphics and still no boot with the pci card installed.
Take the card out and it boots.
Ive taken the motherboard out to check there is nothing shorting anything out.
Now i'm at a loss.
Any ideas?

This has been reported before, its something to do with PCI not being native to the chipset (instead they use a chip to convert PCI-E to PCI), the solution has been to buy a PCI-E sound card.

Yep most likely this, bridge chips were never going to be as good as native support.

There is an article here (which applies to Z68 too):
http://semiaccurate.com/2010/08/19/intels-p67-h67-and-h61-chipsets-will-lack-native-pci-support/

INTEL’S NEXT GENERATION of consumer desktop chipsets will lack native support for the good old PCI bus which dates back to 1993. However, most of the motherboards, if not all, that we saw at Computex back in June still featured PCI slots and it only just dawned how this can be. It turns out that the bridge chip makers are going to be making some bucks here by selling PCI Express to PCI bridge chips.

Intel’s business and enterprise oriented B65, Q67 and Q65 chipsets will retain support for the PCI bus for the time being, so businesses won’t have to worry about older add-on cards not being fully compatible.

X79 also still has native legacy PCI from what I can tell.

Just got a reply from Asrock about this.
They seem to have no problem in getting a pci sound card working with this motherboard.

My Xonar Essence PCI works on my ASRock E4G3 but there are a few pops and crackles at times, that's how I learned about Sandy Bridge using bridge chips.

A bridge chip is kind of like hardware emulation so compatibility is never going to be 100% perfect compared to a native solution. What card do you have out of interest?

Hi I am having a problem with this board but with my mouse and keyboard. Both of them aren't receiving power. But for a strange reason my headset which uses also usb is getting power.

Anyone that got this board can give me some tips. Btw I haven't installed windows yet. Just assembled my PC.

So you've only tested in the bios? lots of people have not been able to get mouse working correctly in the ASRock UEFI, keyboard might be the same.. try installing Windows and see if they get picked up.
