Batman AA did this and it worked perfect for that game. If they all attacked you at once, then you'd be dead. There has to be some sort of balance to make it work. Lame but i can't think of any other way of doing it.
It might have worked in Batman and I can't comment on that because I haven't played it, but in Assassins Creed it makes the game far too easy. I mean whats wrong with the AI attacking more then one at a time? (I never said they should all attack at once) an example could be one of them grabs you from behind while another goes to strike you down. I'm no AI programmer, but they could have atleast done something similar to what I mentioned instead of them all just standing around like morons until it was their turn.
Others have already said the combat in both the original and AC2 was just standing around blocking while couter killing, the only time I ever died was when I missed a jump and fell to my death. But as I said combat in Assassins Creed was never the main part of the game for me.
