Hi all,

not looking for sympathy, just some advice on an incident last night involving me and my housemates.

I went to a nightclub (Route 66 in portsmouth) and when it got to closing time my housemates and I started to walk to the door. I completely forgot that i had a drink in my hand and realised it as i was crossing the threshold so i turned around to try and get back inside as i knew you aren't allowed to take drinks outside.
At this point two bouncers leapt onto me, one wrenching the drink out of my hand and the other grabbing me around the neck with his arms and dragging/choking me to the ground outside - i now have a rather large bruise and graze up my left arm.
I was pretty dazed and confused, when i got up i stupidly shouted a few obscenities at him and he ran from the door and got in my face saying if i ever turn up to the club again he'll make my life not worth living.

My housemates then came and asked me what the hell happened and we went round to the front of the club to speak to the manager - which didnt happen, the door staff refused to let us speak to him.
The bouncer that threw me to the ground came out after this and got in our faces again saying that if we ever turned up to the club again or made a complaint about him then he would personally see that it wasnt worth us being alive.

Ive been going to the club for three years pretty much every monday and never once caused trouble, and i want to go back there again. i think this guy has really overstepped the mark but i'm not sure what i should do about it.

can anyone give any suggestions?

is it worth going back to the club this evening at opening to speak to the manager? would the police do anything about it? should i just leave it and chance going back and him not remembering?

Cheers for reading

Matt

If the clubs by me are anything to go by, the managers/owners are even bigger ****'s than the bouncers.

Would say just don't go back for a few weeks then try and see what happens.

A lot of these doormen have a lot of 'contacts' and so his threats may actually not be so hollow. Get the number of the club and then just turn up next week as normal - if he says you can't go in, call the manager from your mobile and ask him to come outside as you're not being allowed in and you're unsure as to why.

Not sure if there's much you can do. Report to the police and show them your bruise, while it's still there? Write a complaint letter?

I was in a pub in Redhill once for work, we were there for a long time and lots of drinks were ordered. At some point i want to order some more drinks for me and my colleagues, and the guy behind the bar tells me I can only order more if I also order drinks for the "crew" behind the bar, I looked at him and said No. He gets the bouncer to kick me out of the club, on top of that he called the police and I was stopped on my way to the trainstation and frisked. Apparently i had been threatening someone with a smashed glass, can you believe that?

I was very angry at first, then I just never went back to that place.

If this was outside there is a big chance it was on CCTV. Contact your local council - as they most probably run the CCTV in the area.,and see what they can do? Might be useful if you were to take it to the police.

you wont get it, the police would have to go and have a look for it.

i know there is a camera facing the door, but what i dont know is who owns it. i think it might be owned by the club.

I'm going to go down there with my housemate later today, and then go to the police after if they're not helpful at the club. hell i'll probably go to the police as well anyway.

this guy is also very distinct, with a celtic tattoo on his left arm and a tribal one on his right arm and neck. so i could pick him out so easily.

go to police - report assault - show bruise. press charges against bouncer.

If needs be you could offer to go to the club to identify the bouncer one evening.

Police however usually try and brush this under the carpet. Heard many stories of far worse cases happening.

Bouncers are people who pump weights all week and some enhance that with steroids. Give them a chance and they'll take ti to show how manly they.

They are brainless thugs, and quite often thrive on that one night a week they get a sense of power.

Saying that I have met perfectly polite bouncers, however i feel the generalisation is warranted.

take a pic of your injuries and continue with your complaint.

it would be so wrong to do nothing about it, he sounds like the type of person who got into the 'door security' game just for this reason.

its like any job which has a authoritative element to it, they attract a certain type of person.

if he thinks he can get away with behavior like this it will continue.

True - but that means this guy is going to get away with it and do it again next week to someone else.....

sorry to be harsh but this someone else isnt your problem. He got away it could have been worse just dont go on there for a while.

Some of these people you dont really want to get in trouble with i really would forget it

Just let it go. What are you expecting to achieve? Unless its caught on CCTV its your word against his and lets face it, even if it was caught on CCTV the manager is unlikely to do anything.

Just go to the club next time and let things blow over. Chances are so many people will have passed through the club that he won't have remembered you.
