Asus 780i is total pantS?

Corsair is crap RAM?? This thread is hilarious!

If people want to back to this time last year, and paying £150->£200 for 2 x 1GB of branded RAM (Corsair, OCZ, Crucial) then I'm sure Gibbo, ScottiB et al won't mind.

As a 680i user, I'm happy with the board as I have it setup now. However with the lack of future proofing with this board (old revision, no quad fun for me), I wouldn't buy a 780i board unless I was getting 2 x 8800 ultras for free with it.

Apologies, I was referring to Smirnoff's post where it was implied that the corsair was cheap ram, and as such shouldn't be expected to work with the Asus motherboard.

Hey m8 I was not thinking you were talking to me lol.

Simply asking the Q as I was just up after a late night and not awake enough to read the complete thread lol.

BTW to anyone, Asus and Corsair are at times launch partners (said before in this thread) so thats BS.

I have used Asus with Corsair since the NF2 and had zero issues, you could get issues if new Models of Memory came out untill a new Mobo Bios adds support for it.

The 780 Bioses and Drivers are really young yet.

P.S I wonder if the OP is trying to install Windows (esp Vista) with 4GB or the Memory fitted, that will be his issue.

Mate as I've said - the stuff isn't mine. Yes he installed windows with 2gb and then installed the other stick afterwards.

THe problem now is the system (well, he had this problem at the start) won't work unless overclocked. It will freeze in the bios, reboot, freeze in windows etc etc.

The furthest he's got is 30 seconds in Prime. Crysis locks fairly instantly as well.

You got to remember Im not long up and had a few beers last night so aint read all info and dont feel fit to. ;)

Is the OS Vista ?, if so have you gone and got the MS Patch and installed it before fitting the 2nd lot of Memory ?.

(I will reread thread after I feel better).

bios 0703 is now on the asus site as well as new posts on bios settings to get it running stable,

i have mine clocked and its been running just fine, been playing wow all night with no problems at all but i guess your friend wants his running at stock right? i think your also find from the mods at asus the board wont run on a q6600 especially unless its overclocked but im waiting to see what the new bios has done asnd then i'll probably upgrade.

btw im running corsair memory too

Update:

Well he has the new bios on and it still won't post at stock. However, he overclocked it and put in some voltages etc and it is now running prime and has been for the last 20 minutes. Previously it would lock at around 30 secs, with the record being 1-2 minutes.

He doesn't know what to do as there are now two factors:

1) He bought the stuff to overclock.

2) It should really work at stock settings.

If it dont work at stock I would hazzard a guess that there is a FSB Hole in the Bios at that speed, hense it works Above it and I would guess Bellow it to.

What voltages did it default to? as with a lot of ram these days they need mroe than the default 1.8 to even run.

I was going to buy this mobo. Glad i didn't as my RAM probably wouldn't work as i have crucial ballistix. I wonder if the Asus Striker II 780i will be the same? which is supposed to be in stock this week.

Anyway if the board isn't stable at stock it might be a problem with the current BIOS, but as mentioned, it's probably just a FSB hole.
