Asus 780i is total pantS?

I know they are cheaper elsewhere, still dont get away from the fact its a very Expensive £150+ Mobo.

Are you actually buying 1 if not so why bothered ?

1st of I have 4 GiG of XMS Corsair (still cant get it for £40 per 2GB), I run it at 1000mhz, it does make a difference in games for me.

May not make a difference for you playing "Purple Place", you seem to forget most here are enthusiasts.
I have yet to come across a single review that showed any big difference between slow and fast ram, ram speed makes hardly any difference I think, I can't find anything on google proving otherwise, eg. an exact same spec with that ram 1:1 on 800 mhz and 2:3 ( 1200 mhz ram), the fsb yes, but pure ram speed on a higher multi has no point at all ( or at least I've not noticed going from pc3200 cas 3 to pc 6400 cas 4).

I personally dont care what you buy or run, the most expensive Memory aint always the best, nor is the cheapist no brand crap.

What would you have done not so long go before prices were at this all time low ?.

I had cheap ram, and it worked fine, I have not noticed any change going from pc2-3200 to pc2-6400 a while back...
I used to play normall games, not ''purple palace'', at that time I mainly played BF2...

I dont get any of your input apart from it repeats a lot m8.

Who wants to run a high FSB and not have Memory in Sync its better to do so (bit like me rolling out a ball of string faster than you can roll in it at the other end). ;)

You stick to your Generic Memory, I stick to my Corsair. :)

We dont all use our PC's for same uses and there is reviews showing Memory on test and FPS diff in games, you can go and Google for them cause I aint looking as of the top of my I aint read any recently,

You never said it was for high fsb, I'm just saying it's stupid to run RAM faster than cpu/fsb, as it offers no gain in performance.

I don't use generic ram atm I use Geil...

I've just googled ''ram speed game review'' and ''slow ram vs fast ram games'' and '' pc4300 vs pc6400'' and came up with no results, perhaps anyone else can lead me in the right direction?

Nobody in the thread seems to have helped you but Google could and if you still stuck after dinner I will get search results for your benefit not my own.

And stop moving goalposts, who in their right mind will lower/leave default FSB and raise Memory speed (unless simply testing Memory). ?

A 1333FSB CPU only needs Memory to be 667mhz DDR speed.

Where did I say lower fsb, I'm saying: Just raise the fsb vs ram ratio and compare, dont change any other settings like fsb...

Your last point: Exactly, except for heavy ocing why should one need fast ram? Except for the newest 1333 mhz cpu's, almost nobody will ever reach 1000 mhz or higher.

EDIT: sorry for goign offtopic, last post in this thread for me, sorry op :(, sometimes I just feel I have to reply...

fact is nvidia can't make an all around stable and hardware compatible intel chipset to save their lives.

680 is still plagued by general problems for a lot of ppl....fact.

yes the NF4 was a nice chipset, and it's success was partly due to the great tuning available on the DFI boards. but even that had it's moments until you dialled the bios in properly.

and anyone who thinks they need to have £200 DDR2 sticks since the last 6mths is a muppet.

intel chipsets = boot and play

nvidia chipsets = boot and pray

i have this board, the PCIe slot 1, (closest to CPU) , dosent seem to want to boot with my GFX card in, tried the lowest slot and it boots okay...

grr annoying how you spend so much then have to go through the hassle of RMA >< . Build is all complete and using it as normal, don't think i canreally be bothered to take everything apart again , especially CPU cooler lol, and then get all the mobo bits together and RMA it, and then have no PC for a while :( lol. I might just leave it... i'm not going to Tri Sli now anyway, i'm hoping the other slot works too, so i can at least Sli.

Sucks that you can't have a sound card with Sli though.

I still think you should RMA it, wont take long. If you bought it from OCUK then you should have it back winthin 2days.

ROFL! quoted for truth

ASUS P5N32-SLI 680i, 2nd PCI-E slot caught fire 2 hours after instalation

BFG 680i, hated the RAM (GEiL 800mhz ULL 1GB sticks). Then wouldn't post with a slight overclock. Then refused to SLi my 7600GT's. Then started reverting the OC settings. Finally started to switch off randomly so I sold it :|

Knowing my luck, ill probably get another faulty one :P

hmm, well i'm not going to Tri-sli at all so not going to be using that slot i guess, as long as the 2nd PCI slot works then its okay, i'll have to test that out.
