When I turn the power off at the wall to my computer and I put the power back on, my computer takes approx. 25mins before it will come on. At first, I thought the problem was with my graphics card, as I heard there where some issues with 7800GTX's but the more I think about it, the more I think its my motherboard.

Does anyone know if the latest bios (1009) will fix this issue? Or do you know of anything else I can do to fix the problem?

Thank you :)

Odd problem you have there,I`m running the Beta BIOS 1302 no probs, try 1009 tho asap.
When you say it takes 25 mins,do you mean you`re trying the power button every min but it doesnt turn on?.
I`d go over your cabling/cards reseating everything, use another kettle lead in the back, try it again without gtx in,clear cmos manually.
Also might be worth running the mobo outside of the case,it might be shorting if mobo isn`t quite right in case.
Hopefully you`ll have some luck before having to look at other potential problems.

thanks for the help luminous :)

I have tried the 1009 bios now to no avail. When I get some time over the weekend, I will try taking everything out and try it outside the case and then inside it again. I have tried another power lead at a friends house and the same thing happens at his, so I can rule that one out.
A couple of weeks ago, it only used to take 15 minutes to come on and then all of a sudden, it just wouldn't come on for 25 minutes
Yes, I constantly push the power button and there is nothing until the 25 minute mark.

Thank you :)

I have now tested my graphics card in a friends pc and his computer booted straight away, so it has to be my motherboard.

Does anyone know what could be causing it?

Thank you :)

Yes its most likely mobo, but you have to rule out other things first before you go for rma.
How old is it? When its working how are your temps?
Try a minimal setup and start you troubleshooting as follows. Unplug all hard drives, optical drives, and your floppy.Put one stick of RAM in slot B1.
Try booting
1)as above,then try other stick
2)With a diff gfx card if you have a spare
3)with/without a gfx card (just to see if you get a beep)
4)different psu
5)check your cpu heatsink/fan.give it a thorough clean out and repaste/fit
I`d also try a bios reset at each turn

After i wrote that-here`s a guide for a basic setup :)

Taken from good forum over here btw just to do with asus boards http://asustech.15.forumer.com/index.php?act=idx

Thanks for the help luminous :)

My motherboard is about 1 year old now. The temperatures seem normal. My cpu is around the mid 30's and the motherboard is hot at the high 30's but I don't have any fans at the moment, so seems ok. I will try everything you suggested before rma'ing it. The links you provided are very good, so thank you for those as well :)

Unplug any USB card readers, if I have my Dell 2407 card reader connected it takes forever to boot!

HEADRAT

A quick update: My sister is staying with me at the moment and she is never off my computer, so I haven't been able to unplug everything and put one thing back in at a time. I will be doing this when she leaves in about 1 weeks time though as I really want to get to the bottom of this!

Headrat: I don't have any cards connected. I did have the front usb and sound connected though and I unplugged them, cleared the bios as luminous suggested and it booted in 4 minutes! I was really happy. Today though, I took my computer to a friends house and tried it there and its now taking ages to boot again. The front usb and sound are still unplugged and I cleared the bios again but it took around the 25 minute mark again

Thanks for the help :)

Same problem hope this helps

I have had the same thing with the same MB. Everytime I've rebooted the PC it would not load back up again. I found a solution where I had to switch off the PSU, power up the system to drain any leftover charge in there - count to 10 and then power back up and that fixed the issue. I tried to reinstall the BIOS and still the same problem. Now looking for a long term fix. :(

My first premium wouldn`t boot either, tried most things from troubleshooter so took mobo into a shop just took 2 mins to find out it was dead. Its helpful to do this to rule out psu,cpu and gfx.I then got a replacement.
The tech said that sometimes the bios chip gets corrupted, and that somewhere in germany you can get replacement chips sent out.One bloke has even `hotswapped` a working bios chip with a dud and it worked.
All this is a matter of ruling things out one step at a time,if you can get a bloke to look at it cheaply well worth it then you can get on with rma.
I think on the asus board they spoke about cold boot issues, fussy with ram etc.

Thing is

Thing is it was working fine for 2 years and then I change the nothbridge heat sink (had to take the MB out for this) power it up and find the BIOS had reset and I have this power problem.

Sometimes I really HATE PC's

Ho Hum

Im sorry I haven't replied for a while and updated my problems but here's my latest news:

My motherboard has now stopped working. So, a warning to anyone else with this problem, send the motherboard back to asus, buy another one but make sure you don't lose any data etc. because im pretty sure that I will lose my data due to the motherboard dieing :(

Check here

Hopefully your data will be ok jake. Its better really for the mobo to fail and get a replacement rather than have these frustrating booting issues and having to troubleshoot everything.

Do you have a link for the 1302 Beta BIOS. I havent been able to find it.

Thanks luminous and thanks for all the help during this thread. Do you think asus will accept my motherboard because one of the white clip's on the pci-e slot that holds the graphics card in has come away?

Thanks everyone :)

hi, i been using this mobo for months now with no cold boot issues check that you case power button/reset switch and others are correcly connected

and i would check your PSU whats the watts and dont GTX take a bit of watts?

I recently had some issues with cold boot and windows locking up but it was due to my 600watt Tagan PSU, after next day RMA Tagan shipped me a new PSU and picked up my old one, ever since no problems no lock ups

Aye you should be fine jake, its not like a capacitor or something.
As Ronaldo says did you try another psu?,you sound confident its the mobo.
When i have the dough i`m getting another psu and have the hiper as a backup for such an occasion.
Its funny when i came on here in the beginning folks were saying hiper? good psu mate go for it.Now its like `noooo hope you`re wearing bomb proof gear while surfing the net`.Maybe we should start a `My hiper hasn`t taken out the neighbourhood` thread :) .
Oh yeh to get the beta bios you have to use the drop down box on the asus site for finding the board and drivers.Click `Latest` when you get to the drivers etc(if you click `bios`it shows the older ones).
