Whats the difference between this and the A8N SLi Premium (other than the silent heatpipe effort...), are they good for clocking?

I'm just looking for a good not to expensive SLi board for some overclocking fun with a gsoh. :D

The SLI premium offers more features than the SE, such as more sata connections, the heatpipe cooling solution etc. You can get a good overclock with the SE board but i wouldnt expect anything too special. If your main aim is to overclock then i would suggest taking a look at the DFI motherboards although they dont come cheap.

Apparently the SE only has upto 1.45V vcore, 2.9V mem, and no chipset voltage control...

I'll pass on that one then...

A fan that sounds like a jet engine!

Couldn't tell you - couldn't hear anything over my 7900GT stock cooler..... :D

The SE is a nice, mid-range mobo. Up to 1.55vCore, 2.9vMem, tweak the memory timings, HTT, PCI and Hypertransport bus speeds, had my 3700+ San Diego running at 2.8GHz nicely....4 nV SATA ports, usual IDE ports, plenty of oomph....

It's an easy overclocker. Gives you enough to feel good about overclocking, but not too much, that you're like wtf? does that setting do?

I would doffo agree with that statement, it's a damn good board for the money. don't forget the Asus premium and the DFI's are great o'clockers but you can have 2 of these boards for one of them

i beg to differ , ihave the platinum and has caused a lot of general unstableness, my friend also had the one below me and he had problems too but changed it and no problems

maybe we got 2 bad ones but they do seem to be a little unstable

things randomly stop working then work again :/

I have an asus a8n-sli se too. Only thing i would reccomend if you get one of these is to NOT INSTALL THE NVIDIA FIREWALL!! dont install it as it currupts 90% of downloads

Ended up getting a DFI SLi-D in the end, didn't want to take any chances with the clockability :D

Beg to differ old bean :)

It's a great hardware firewall, and to find it on a board at that price was a bonus....It does need set up properly for p2p apps though....
