So, I bought an Asus A8N32-SLi from OCuk last week. Works great, much less hassle than my DFI board, but one thing is niggling at me.

When I power on my PC, I get the usual phoenix bios 6.00 etc, but under that in big white letters is a message saying:

EVALUATION ROM NOT FOR RESALE

I havent flashed the board yet, running with the stock bios, no alterations.

Have OCuk sold me a dodgy mobo?

PS: posting from memory here, wording on that message might not be 100%.

not sure if OCUK have sold you a dodgy board but mine doesnt appear with that message when i boot mine up althogh i bought mine from a competitor but that shouldnt make a difference

This is certainly very interesting. I purchased one of these motherboards (Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe nForce4 SLi X16) and built it at work (oh the joys of having a boss who's more of an enthusiast than me) ;)

Anyway, he liked the board so much he purchased one as well but one of our boards came from Overclockers and the other didn't and the two were different. If you turn the motherboard upside down, the underside is a kind of blue colour and the board from overclockers was plain, yet the board from a competitor had some kind of heat material on it. Trust me - the OcUK board was completely different on the underneath.

I'm wondering if OcUK in their bid to get stock before anyone else got a dodgy pre-release batch from somewhere.
