Has anyone used the Asus AI OC?

I'm not sure how I feel about leaving the OC to software but Der8auer seems to think it isn't a bad option.

I am going to be following his instructions on manually OC the 9900k but I wondered if anyone was using or had tried this?

So i tried the ai oc and with the settings it selected the system was unstable.

After a crash the settings were not auto adjusted by the ai either which i thought it would do to find stability. I think I'll be giving it a miss for the time being.

Better doing it manually, you'll learn a bit and probably get a higher and stable OC to boot.

To boot... Hehe... See what I did there :)
:D

Yes, i'm going to be following the video Der8auer put out since it addresses overclocking with this bios in particular.

I was hoping that the AI OC would be a good starting point.

Auto oververclocking has always been a bit hit and miss.. Running high voltages for small overckocks is the classic.

Yeh just watch a few videos, so you understand what you're doing and why, should lead to best results.
Main thing is getting used to testing repeatedly,.. You'll get used to lots of blue screens and understanding the relationship between more cpu speed means more volts means higher temperature.
Just about finding the balance.

I'm looking forward to it!

I watched a bit of the gamersnexus OC livestream and it made it seem pretty straight forward. To a point.

Right now I'm just absorbing as much info as i can before i get started.

One question, do bluescreens negatively affect the windows install? If i get enough of them will i need to reinstall the os?

I tried the AI overclocking on my Asus Hero and had the same results as your own.

Tried manual overclocking instead but need better cooling before I run at 5GHz 24/7

1.35v at 5GHz, I'm going to have to see if I can improve on that voltage also. As it's a little bit on the high side for my liking.

That's a shame.

What Bios version are you using? Mine is still on the original one it came with. I know Steve at GN said there was another that added better memory support. And Der8auer said that on the newer bios the Sil quality percentage has been removed.
Perhaps another change of the newer bios is better AI OC, perhaps not.

I used the OC tool with my gigabyte board(old 1150 with a 4790k)
and it has set the oc perfectly fine, although i too had to reduce the volts to 1.27 to keep it cool @4.7 all cores.
Perhaps the Asus app is not very good

Nope.. It's just part of the process. If it crashes to blue screen it'll just reboot and might reset your bios to standard settings.
So it's handy to set up a bios profile so you don't have to reconfigure everything all the time, just load up your overclocked profile, and dial down or up whatever you're testing.. Like cpu speed or vcore.

Bios version is showing as 0224 on cpuz.

The CPU test in cinebench is a good app to use when dialling things in as it's quick to run so you can reboot, adjust bios, boot back up and re-test pretty quickly.
Obviously have a temperature monitor running along side it too..i prefer HWmonitor so you can see max temps hit.
