Running a p5b-deluxe and ive been having trouble with it recognising the correct amount of ram (reads 2x2gb sticks as 3 gb) so i decided to update the bios to the latest version (there was mention of 4gb problems in the info)

Being a cabbage i used the windows based flasher, which obviously failed and being an even bigger cabbage i decided to reboot and see if a fresh boot up would give better results ... yeah right!

So now i've downloaded the bios file to my laptop, ive copied it to a cd, when the machine boots from a cd i get...

Checking for cd-rom...
cd-rom found.
Reading file "P5BD.ROM"
File "P5BD.ROM" not found on cd-rom!
Checking for usb device ...

So it sees the flash file, but then decides the flash file isn't there :(

If i copy it to my portable drive (80gig WD unit on usb) i get...

Checking for usb device...
usb device found.
Reading file "P5BD.ROM"_

and then it stops, the cursor carries on flashing, but it doesnt actually do anything with the flash file. Ive tried leaving it 10 minutes, but it still doesn't play.

I've even tried burning the version of the bios i was using originally to a cd but it behaves just the same.

Any ideas? At least i haven't got a blank screen!

Copy the file to a USB Flash disk. I know mine Asus P6T, only works with either USBFlash or a floppy disk.

Not got anything as fancy as a usb drive!

I think i've cracked it though, you need to actually change the name of the bios file to p5bd.rom, it doesnt scan the bios file and see what mobo it's for, it just looks for a particular file name.

Blindingly obvious when i read the messages on the screen i suppose!

cheers

Running vista x64, i had a ram prob and i though the flash would sort it. Turns out i was just being crap in the first place and the bios was fine :D
