Asus DSL-N55U Black Diamond

Well for the short time you've had the Asus DSL-N55U what has it been like?

When I got it the firmware that it came with was dire, my connection speeds were really low. After flashing with a beta firmware and some tweaking it's worked a treat. I believe Asus have since released new, better firmware so it shouldn't be an issue. Since then it's been solid, hardly had to touch it, not since Virgin installed cable yesterday and it's now back in the box :(

Can somebody please help me by testing this well known tv guide website. It can be unreliable but most of the time behaves.

Now it has started acting up, but I cannot be sure whom is at fault, the website or this new router of mine. I do not get any other problems just this one website. It is quite bad this time around:

www.tvtv.co.uk

I just need somebody to confirm it is playing up then I wont be blaming my router.

I'm having trouble getting on the internet with this router.
I am with BE Unlimited. I have put all the correct settings in that were on my old router but still no luck. The router says connected on the settings page but my computer says no internet and my wireless devices cant load any webpages either. :(

Any ideas?

Ok, fixed it! For anyone with Be Unlimited with a Static IP, I managed to resolve the issue by manually changing the protocol to MER rather than IPoA. :D

@Chadd. Good news on getting the router working :)

Im still not having good times here! this router keeps dropping the connection. I enabled the url and keyword filter, added some stuff and then press "Apply" the router takes ages to come back and flips out, drops the connection?

www.tvtv.co.uk keeps playing up, the problem is. its the only tv guide I really like and have been using it for years now! I put up with the stupid things and when its down etc but now its getting a bit silly with corrupted images, messed up stuff all over. Can somebody please go into the site and head to BBC3, then bring up the details for a programme called Cuckoo which is on at 2am. If it comes up perfect with no errors at all, even on the image that is there then I have problems here that I cannot figure out.

So are their issues in general with internet dropping? I need something to replace my old Be box as I'm finding its wireless is rubbish but reliable and with plans to add a Nas enclosure I really need to upgrade WiFi speeds and router lan ports to gigabit.
Chadd do you have any issues? Apart from initial setup problems?

Hey Chad, so what settings did you have to go about changing when installing the asus? or was it straight forward plug n play except the change of IPoA to MER

Sorry for the late reply.

Here's the settings I'm using. Not had any problems since I managed to get it setup :)
This is for Be Unlimited with a static IP

I should report about mine, been a while!

Mine has stopped dropping the connection and the website that was giving me a headaches is now behaving.

Quite happy with this modem, I have attached two seagate goflex drives and all that part works good.

The wireless side is just excellent! I was having a lot of issues with other modems, I had a belkin which had a terrible signal. The homehub was a tad better but would get wiped out by other signals. Now I can get 100% max 24/7.

^^

I said to do that before using it :p

Either get the latest official, or the latest beta. Can't say I've noticed a single problem with any of the beta versions, they're more small fixes and things like the USB ports, which I don't use.

Make sure you do a full reset after installing the new firmware
Sorry to open an oldish topic, why's it so important to do a full reset after flashing the latest firmware.

Any advice on the Stability adjustment? I've got:
SNR Up : 6.5
SNR Down : 9.5
Line Attenuation Up : 23.5
Line Attenuation Down : 41.3

I guess it's the way the settings are stored on the router. Because there's been large upgrades on the interface, it's simpler for Asus to tell the user to do a hard reset.

People would moan if it did it automatically because you'd lose your Internet login details from the gui.

They advise doing it, people have had weird issues when they haven't done it.

You'll have to cap the download & upload speeds or the connection will become saturated.

Just got one of these today and I'm trying to upgrade the firmware but it doesn't seem to work. I check the firmware version, click OK at the popup but it doesn't seem to update. The progress bar gets to complete and then nothing.

What am I doing wrong :/

I've not tried using the auto updater.

What I did was get the latest firmware, this one is working fine..

Extract the file to your desktop; you'll need 7zip or Winrar to extact it from that file...

Then use the 'choose file' button in the router settings and point it at the file.*

*Run through this twice, then once it reboots and is up and running, hold the reset button on the back from ~15 seconds so it fully refreshes all the settings.
