R.I.P my G751........:(

Fired it up this morning to play dying light and windows was running really slow. Opening items was taking ages. Did a restart and all seemed ok until I tried to run a game. The screen flashed black the fans went insane and the speakers beeped lots. Tried another re-start but now getting the check board pattern again as I posted above.

The laptop was running everything at stock settings.

It's being collected and refunded. I will work out if I replace it with another at some point but for now all I have is my trusty iPad.....

Stupid laptop...:(

You do have awful luck with laptops, Moogs...

It seems Nvidia have now officially removed all 9xx overclocking from current and future drivers.

I'm sure it will be re-introduced if enough complain but then again Nvidia are not known for listening to its users.

Older notebook GPU's like the 780m and 880m are still able to overclock so not sure why Nvidia think the 9xx with lower TDP's can not overclock ?

Bad decision tbh and it seems Nvidia have gone a bit mad lately.

Holy crap, just check and you are indeed correct, any overclock just resets immediately... why on earth would they do this?

Isn't it nice that Nvidia are thinking of our laptops.....

Nvidia really have become a horrible company.

Unfortunately GeForce notebooks were not designed to support overclocking. Overclocking is by no means a trivial feature, and depends on thoughtful design of thermal, electrical, and other considerations. By overclocking a notebook, a user risks serious damage to the system that could result in non-functional systems, reduced notebook life, or many other effects.

There was a bug introduced into our drivers which enabled some systems to overclock. This was fixed in a recent update. Our intent was not to remove features from GeForce notebooks, but rather to safeguard systems from operating outside design limits.

AMD need to get a move on and get a new set of GPU's out.

No difference to my boot speed. It was already fast, but.. the backlit keyboard can now be completely switched off or left on perm with different brightness levels. It's a major improvement for me. Now the sound has been sorted too, its awesome. So pleased I purchased.

I have read a lot about initial issues in this thread and was really afraid that I would get one with problems. I have bought it last week and it has no problems whatsoever. Great machine. I couldn't have asked for more :)

Just bought one of these after doing a lot of reading about what is best to buy, noise, performance, issues with some ROG laptops etc.
It puts my previous gaming laptop to shame!

I am very impressed so far, almost trouble-free startup except when installing Windows on first boot, it could not connect to my wireless and would not accept the password until I persevered with it and got it to connect by pressing the sync button on my Sky router
No issues with wireless or connection since, but have not tried a heavy gaming session.

Downloaded the latest sound and gfx drivers and transferred them straight onto new laptop from my external and updated immediately after reading previous issues with sound quality, however it does sound like there is a rattle from left side speaker when volume is above 30 which I will have to keep an eye out on

Was going to update the Bios, but appears I have quite a recent build as it is already showing release 205 out of the box so I will leave it for now.

Just ordered with 970m, couldn't justify the extra to a 980m model. Look forward to getting back into my games after a few months without one.

I had a clevo previously, it was very good actually. I wanted the IPS screen and better warranty on the asus though. Also whilst it's cosmetic I also wanted a different chassis and the clevo ones look the same as my 4 year old one pretty much!

It turned up today, wasn't expecting that so thanks OcUK :D

Initial impressions are very good, I prefer the feel and keyboard layout to that of the MSI GT72 I had last year, the screen is also superior (but I didn't have one of the IPS models.) I haven't had any chance yet to try out any games but will give it a go tonight!

If you want the battery to last for browsing etc then go into power management settings and set maximum processor speed to 50%, it gives a good increase in battery life for non-gaming tasks (and who games on battery anyway?). :D

The optical drive is a pain in the arse though, it always springs open at the slightest touch. Haven't found a way to stop it opening yet even when disabled in device manager. However, not a deal-breaker.

So glad I picked one of these up for £1280 with 980M at launch! :)
