Asus HD6870 + 120hz: high idle temps

Also maybe someone here knows a way of down-clocking your cards 120hz idle clocks enough that it reduces power consumption but doesn't cause flickering.
Maybe a bios mod or after burner or something...

Edit:
If your that worried about power consumption, you would have been much better off keeping the 6870 if it was fast enough?

Yes it looks like fine tuning the minimum (or slightly above) freq that works and doesn't flicker is the best what can be done. However I don't know how to do it right now, I'll try to investigate. It's not THAT much of a problem, it mostly concerns me due to "higher principle" e.g.: I understand that burning power in 3D is unavoidable, but wasting it unnecessary while 2D idling seems "suboptimal" to say the least.

Btw my previous card was 6850 (6870 is owned by OP, I just highjacked his thread a bit :D) Main reason for upgrade was of course performance - e.g. even with single GTX 580 I can only dream of playing metro2033 everything maxed at 1920x1080, but it nevertheless makes the game much more enjoayble than 6850.
