I have this board with 2 HD`s connected to sata 1 and 2 respectively ( the ones that go direct to the south bridge) running in non raid.

I have recently installed another hard drive into sata_raid 1 ( on the promise controller) .

PC boots up fine but does`nt recognise the drive in bios or windows. When I first booted up it recognised it as new hardware but the drivers would not install.
I have set the sata in bios to IDE and still no joy.

Could anyone help me to get this drive working please ?
I thought I wouldn`t need drivers if it was running in IDE mode?

Owned this board years ago, so going from memory.
You will need to install the Promise SATA drivers in Windows.

But if you can't see the disk in the BIOS thne you need to change some settings there first.

Make sure the Promise controller is enabled and, if possible, set to IDE mode.

Then install the drivers. :)

I have already done this but no joy

I will uninstall drivers and start from scratch again when I get back tonight and see how that goes.

Did I have to install promise drivers before attaching the hard drive ?

Right I am still having problems with this. Every time I try to update the drivers it says that a better match can not be found than what I currently have !!

When I boot my PC after the Asus picture I get something saying that Promise controller is active and that my hardrive is detected and IDE bus mode enabled.

When i get to bios the first page does not show my Hard drive but it shows on the boot disk page as the fourth drive but it is labelled as sata378 or something like that.

My bios settings are:
sata enhanced mode
sata configured as raid = no

Drive does not show up in windows

HELP !!!!

I have the same board and had the same problem when I installed a third drive like you have.

I solved it quite easily by installing the Promise drivers off the cd that came with the mobo.

Will check bios settings when I get home and can write a step by step guide of what I did, if you want?!

Basically you need to do this:

Bios

Promise Controller - "Enabled"
Operating Mode - "IDE" (NOT "RAID")

Driver

Install the "ATA 378" Promise driver on your mobo cd. DO NOT install the "Raid 378" driver!

This thread might have some helpful info in the mean time:

Hey thx Div0 !
I think I have accidentally installed the raid driver from the cd. That link you you posted is EXACTLY whats happening to mine. I just need to get rid of the existing driver so I can install the ide driver. I will try his fix when I get back home tonight.

P.S. incase the above fix doesn`t work I will have to try "Bobs " fix but I can`t find out exactly what he has done he only states this:

"Thanks I eventually got it to work but it is a bit more complicated than
this if you have installed the raid drivers and want to go back to the IDE
driver. I had to physically delete the installed files and edit the
registry as it would not go from RAID to IDE. The device just fails to
start, I also had to the the RAID .dll in the run area of the registry.
It would be good if ASUS provided an uninstall for the drivers.

Bob "

I am not competent enough to understand exactly what he has done or to start deleting .dll files !
