Just wondering will this make a diffrence, i have 18 pin power connector plugged into my mobo and think it should be 24 will that cuase less power?

You mean you have 20pins? There is no 18pins just 20 & 24.

Yes it will work just leaving the 4pins out at the right unplug, though you have to make sure your PSU has enough 12V+ amperage. 20-24pins adapter is recommended.
