I have flashed my Asus P5N-E SLI board from 0202 to 0401 and it's dead! It will load at the start and when I press 'delete' to enter setup, the screen just goes black. When I flashed it told me it completed OK but obviously this is not the case. What's the warranty situation then?

Tanks guys!!!

It does revert it back to stock settings. But sometimes you need to do it after a flash.

theres a jumper on your mainboard to clear cmos.

press Alt-F2 in main screen to start a flash if you want to try to revert to older bios versions or any other bios version.

Thankyou for that Snowdog! Do you know exactly where this jumper is?

After pressing ALT-F2, I am able to access the flash utility. When I select o revert back to an older BIOS version I get a message saying that I cannot downgrade. I tried flashing the current version again but same problem.

Thanks again!

The CLRTC jumper is located between the system panel connector and the sata connectors. Page 1-26 of the manual refers.

I had the same problem with my board. :(

After many attempts to clear the jumpers it would not get past the boot logo to enter the flash utility.

Your supposed to be able to use the CD supplied to recover the bios but it didn't work for me.

I RMA'd it back to the suppliers.

Thanks guys! I'm about to try the jumper. Failing that, I have another idea. I am able to flash to 0401 again, but not back to 0202. It says in the manual that you can restore the BIOS if it fails giving a checksum error.

Should I flashing again and deliberately turning the power off during this process? Hopefully I will get this checksum error and be able to restore it. What do you guys reckon?

Got it working!!! Thanks andyh for directing me to that page. I cleared the CMOS and all is working dandy, and it appears I am using the latest BIOS! Thanks a lot for all your help guys. I really appreciated it! :) :) :)

Vipergrm, dont you just hate it when you update your bios and a few days later they bring out a new one. Version 0505 is out now.

This m'board is a real pain...have same problem...will reset CMOS now...
EDIT. works. What's 0505 got in it ?

Already had to do this when locked 'puter trying an overclock - I thought "CPU Recover" was meant to reset BIOS settings when an overclock goes wrong. Oh no it doesn't.

And getting to the CMOS jumper is a real pain (loads of cables around it...)

Are you following the CPU recover procedure? No? Didn't think so. :p

I posted in the main P5N-E SLi thread about how to make a switch for about £5 that you can fix on the outside of the case.

And if you start out with a bad (grumpy) attitude the motherboard feels that vibe and generally doesn't want to overclock for you. A positive, collaborative smile and a pat on the PSU vent usually get mine booting with the best of them

I can confirm this is true, I made a post in the official thread slagging this board off to high heaven, I was getting more and more stressed trying to work out where the fsb holes are.

So I left it for a while, came back with a calm attitude and a lot of love for the board and now im currently running orthos on my [email protected] 415x9.

You just have to love it  :p
