Howdy,

Ok I have just splashed out £1,161+ on a new spec system, and I opted for the Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 Motherboard (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-221-AS).

I was going to get the Q6600 Intel Quadro CPU, but then changed my mind to save tons of cash and get the E6600 instead.

Well in the future when the Quads go down in price, and they are utilised more I will prob get one. But I want to know what the max this mobo would be able to support?

I mean at the moment I assume it will support the Q6600 - 2.40GHz and the QX6700 - 2.66GHz but when new, high clock speed quads are released, how far would the mobo be able to go? Or is its peak the QX6700 - 2.66GHz?

So so I know for future proof :)

Well new quad cores will be using the 1333FSB. I assume the 650i is capable of this but at the moment only uses a 1066FSB. This could probably be changed with a BIOS update though as you can see with the DS3/P

If so then there's no reason why it won't be able to support any future 1333FSB quad core processors.

The answer isn't simple. From the 0401 BIOS there is native support for the 1333 strap processors, however there are reported issues with clocking current quad-cores on these boards, so don't bank on anything much above stock if it does work. It is supposedly a hardware problem, so it cannot be fixed in a future BIOS revision.

I'd wait for confirmation from someone more knowledgeable but atleast for the next batch of intel cpus it should be.

Yeah, I'm not too fussed at the moment, I wont be upgrading to a Quad for a while yet... I'll be happy with my E6600.

And tbh, when the time comes I can always by a new cheap asus mobo like this one that will support it.. aswell as all my other components!
