ASUS P5NSLI: Core 2 Duo and SLI preview

I'd give it some time before the NF chipsets become better at overclocking on the core duo.
but then maybe they won't overtake the intel ones?
I've found that over the years things change here and there and whats gone before is no indication of whats to come.

There's a certain element of truth to that, but, for a set chipset overclockabilty essentially remains the same. Only way Nvidia will get a board upto 450+MHz will be with a totally new chipset in my opinion.

exactly, they would have to have a whole new revision of the chipset to change things.
do VIA and SIS make intel chipsets?

Probably, but I can't remember anything highend coming from VIA for a year or two (overclocking wise), even longer for SIS.

it has been a fair old while!
just read the review, another set of results that don't realy show anything outstanding either way, the NF chipset seems to underperform compaired to the other two, but its hardly anything.

The board was limited in regards to voltage adjustments which couldn't have helped, the previous "preview" anand wrote on the NF590 chipset was far more gushing about it's capabilities (within the confines of the NDA) so i'm hoping that it'll be more impressive than the NF570 when it's launched in just over a week. I'd really like a ROG version to play with. :D

Looks like it's a big disappointment overclocking wise.

What's more of a disappointment is that SLi users are still completely shafted for choice on motherboards.

Only the P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe is Conroe compatible, and "compatible" seems to be stretching the truth. From what I've seen, people who have bought this board have either found that the board refuses to POST with DDR2 800 mem, despite the e-tailer descriptions stating it supports it or had it fall over if they try and overclock it.

I bought this board and got all excited about seeing my Core 2 Duo in action and the it went all Dan Quayle on me :(

Best thing was having the Asus tech support tell me to put a P4/Celeron in it and see if it worked so I could then flash the bios. There is no bios revision to flash it with because initial release is supposed to support Conroe :p

Right now, I just want a board that works :)
