I was setting up my rig earlier after reinstalling my os to a new hdd, i had some files backed up to an external hdd that was connected via usb. Upon rebooting during the graphics card driver install, i got as far as the hdd post info, just before the xp logo appears, then nothing but a blinking cursor in the top left corner on a black screen. After checking the card was seated ok and checking bios settings etc, i turned off the external hdd and it booted into windows as normal. Is this a common problem and could anyone shed some light on it.

I have the same mobo as you, with a WD Mybook external drive hooked up. Have had it connected via firewire and currently through USB, and have had no problem as you described.

Running the latest 2001, but had no problems with all the prior bioses.
