Asus p5w dh deluxe mobo temp high - fan needed?

Hey all,

I have an asus p5w dh deluxe mobo, and whilst everything is functioning fine, I've notived that the mobo temps are pretty high - around 46 under load. I haven't yet installed the mobo fan which comes supplied, but am now tempted. The only worry is that it'll conflict with my scythe ninja. Any thoughts or advice?

The 975X chipset are rather hot, so your temps are normal. There was a member on xtremesystems that had gotten a reply from asus support on the issue and they stated that anything under 50 was normal and nothing to worry about.

Okay, but that's at stock. I haven't overclocked yet, and presumably once I do, it'll make the mb temps higher.

Trust me, if you saw the stuff they put under the sinks as thermal interface material, you would not be suprised. Mine lost 8 - 10 degrees after cleaning up the Asus mess & replacing with the thinnest possible amount of AS5.

Have seen the stuff under the heatsinks and it is rubbish plus there is too much caked on there i got rid of it all and the thermal tape.

My bro has a asus p5w dh deluxe and i cleaned all the chipsets and cpu with isopropyl alcohol and replaced with AS5, mother board temps are 43 and E6700 overclocked to 3.00GHz, FSB 300 , Temp: 24.

Remove the plastic cover that is on the south and north chipsets, might be a quick solution, and why asus felt the need to make a problem even worse by adding plastic to the heat sinks is anyones guess.

If you mean the plastic covering it to protect the nice copper from a machining process your supposed to take that off.

No not the plastic, i know that was on top of the supposedly copper cover, i was referring to the copper/plastic looking cover.
