hello alll

i cant make up my mind out of these baords, they both tick a lot of boxes;

mainly concerned is:

- quad core support
- stability
- performance

not bothered:

- sli or x fire
- overclocking

any opionions would be helpful

;)

thanks

go for the P5W DH Deluxe its got more features for just 7quid more and it makes sense if you not crazy about overclocking :)

Depends on which processor you intend to combine it with. Edit - just saw your "Not overclocking comment"

The 975x chipset on the p5w is equivalent to about 400mhz faster cpu speed on the 965 chipset. The 965 can get much higher fsb though but as your being silly and not clocking the 975x is the better choice + that can hit some good fsb limits anyway

hi

i will be using the 6600 with it, isnt the 975 got an older chipset and a bit slower than the p5b.

the p5b is more future proof and utlises new technologies which hopefully comes into play eventully.

Im not sure that its 400mhz difference. I dont think theres barely anything performance wise between the two chipsets. The reason for the 965 chipsets overclocking to such a high FSB is because the chipset timmings are looser than the 975X ones which is why the P5W DH gets better scores in superPI. Although i cant remember where i read this it might of been xtremesystems though :p

The 965 is targeted at mainstream and the 975 at enthusiasts

has anyone gone from a p5w to a p5b?

is there any difference in gaming speeds? what do E6600 clock like on the p5b board?

any help in this matter would be appreciated,,, ps sorry to hijack the thread! :D

Well I dont have any personal experience of either yet, but ill quote the conclusion from cpc for you.
"Given that the Intel 975X chipset is the company's top-of-the-range offering, you'd expect boards based around it to run faster and overclock further than those using the more mainstream P965 chipset; in our Core 2 Duo tests, however, we've found the opposite to be true. This means that the only advantage the 975X chipset has to offer is CrossFire support. While the PW5 DH Deluxe can overclock to the same frequency as that of the P5B Deluxe, it just isn't as fast, so unless you're dead set on CrossFire, the slightly cheaper P5B Deluxe is a much better buy".

Im ordering my new set up today and from what I have been reading the board you choose all depends on the cpu you buy.

The 6300 is most suited to the P5B and the 6600 is best with the PD5W DH.

I am going for the 6600 and therefor the PD5W DH. The reason for this is the ram at pc6400 is guaranteed at 400 fsb and on the 6600 that would be a clock of 3.6. I dont want to take the risk of the ram maxing out or buying £300 plus ram.

Have a look at the table on top of this thread if you get the 6300 get the ds3 or ds4. If you are getting the 6600 get the PD5W DH.
