Asus P7P55D Pro boots when I touch the keyboard

Hey guys,

I've got a P7P55D pro with the latest BIOS and all the "power on by X" options off. When I shut down Windows, but still leave it powered on at the wall, all I need to do is tap space bar a couple of times on my USB keyb and the machine will power on! It won't do it unless the machine has been properly booted at least once.

With an older BIOS the machine would randomly turn on, without even touching the keyboard - however it's not yet done that since I've moved to the 1207 BIOS.

Anyone else get this?

not heard of this issue before are you sure all options to do with powering by keyboard are off?

Silly question, but are you sure it's shutting down and not just going into sleep mode?

IIRC Vista defaults so that when you click the old shutdown button, it actually just goes night night.

(Assuming of course you're running Vista!)

I experienced random boots with an Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard a while ago and I too thought it was to do with 'power on' BIOS settings. After much mucking around in BIOS (to no avail) I tried the keyboard in a different USB socket and the issue went away. It seems some Asus motherboards are a bit fussy about where keyboards should be connected.

My thoughts would be the same as tibbsey - your rig is asleep and you are waking it up with your keyboard - check your power options to confirm what the on/off button is doing etc etc

Hi guys, sorry for the delay replying.
Yeah I'm sure it's off - I normally hibernate, plus when it comes back on I see all the BIOS info! I'll have a go with the socket changing thing and see. The random power-ons haven't yet occurred since changing BIOS though...

Maybe you're right with the sleep thing though. I'll try hibernating and tapping the keyb vs doing a proper shutdown, just to see if there's a change.

UPDATE: when I choose the shut down option it won't come back on by a keyboard tap, but it will with hibernate! Maybe Windows (7, in this case) programs the board to restart on USB events or something? Def using hibernate, not just sleep.
