Hi guys

I am just putting my new rig together which I received today, but have come across one problem.

The ( "H" shaped) clip provided with the Fenrir which holds the heatsink to the bolts fitted on the Asus mobo cannot be fitted due the the heatsinks built in to the mobo at the northside of the cpu (top side of the case). They are in the way! :(

Has anyone else used this combination? Am I doing something wrong? I have not built a pc in a few years...

I have now fitted the stock cooler but and am getting temps while in bios @ 60c. Is the too high?

Help appreciatied

i just installed the p8p67 deluxe mobo and the thermaltake frio installed great.
if u have to send the cooler back i would recomend the frio. @ 4.5ghz dont go over 60c ht on full prime.

"cool" pun intended . Fingers crossed it fits if not i will need to send back and go for the frio .

bit miffed as i was going to go for the thermaltake in the first place- still all this could be panic for nothing.

Will turning it 90 degrees help?

Pics may help.

I am by far an experienced pc builder, so I do hope I am being stupid and am making a glaring error. I have set my PC up with the stock fan, and am reluctant to strip it down and start again to show photos. I have however taken a few photos to show what I mean.

First Pic shows the base of the cooler, and the clip in question.

The second pic shows the clip placed ontop of my installed stock fan as an "indication" of the problem. The "eye holes" to the left side of the clip, overlap the built in heatsink.

The third pic shows the clip rotated 90 degress, again the sticking out "eye holes" overlap the built in heatsink.

Please let me know how you get on porkmince. It could well be me being stupid, it wouldn't be the first time!

gutted this is a send back job

from this website :

Titan Fenrir TTC-NK85TZ CPU cooler, except for LGA1155 systems where we use a Corsair H50 due to the incompability between the Fenrir and Asus P8P67 motherboard

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2011/01/03/intel-sandy-bridge-review/6

so as i will be sending this back -

any view on whether asaka venom or thermaltake frio ?

OC should remove this fenrir from the list for the board or make it clear on website

it looks like the akasa venom and contac 29 will fit this motherboard from looking at overclocked bundles but are there any better alternatives?

I have the TT Frio , after having a Corsair H50 and the frio out performs it. I my mine the Frio is almost up there with the Noctua DH 14 and Megaharlems it really performs well. Im on a I5 760 @ 4.2 and It goes no higher than low 70s Prime 95 so normal use 60s if that. For price performance the Frio is a winner!

Ah the Frio sounds good. £37 though :( Maybe a bit rich for my blood after spending on this setup.

ah awesome I can live with that. I was tempted with cheaper options like the contac 29 but hell I may aim for a higher oc with the frio!

I've installed the frio now -I'm definitely not a fan of the mounting system. It would be nice if the mount was set up seperately instead of needing to hold the big firo and mount at the same time to screw the nuts in!

Anyways it was definitely manageable but not very slick. Temp wise it seems kinda amazing so far. I've just had it installed so not really settled in but prime blend is already showing a difference from stock 77c peak to 49c peak! I've got the fan running on low too and my 2nd fan isn't even running off the chassis header D:

I can see the fan connected to the chassis 1? header spinning up at boot but then it slows down and stops completely. What's the deal with that?

Also the Frio is ridiculously big.

Did I mention that the Frio will overhang the 1st and 2nd ram slots by the way? I might of done that in another thread. But it kinda makes ram un-removable? without dissembling the Frio.

Ah yeah the other guy mentioned it.
