well having a problem with my board now for past 4 months never worked.
Well is has for a small amount of time with a ati 4650 with that card in every thing worked fine had it all up and running. But then i installed my BFG 260 and it no longer work i have tryed every thing (and i mean every thing all the parts work in my mates board so it has to be the motherboard). any idea what the problem is befor i rma the board.

Could you define 'no longer work'? (Does the computer post, do the fans spin, can you get into the BIOS etc - or is there no sign of life at all?)

i have tryed every thing

Could you highlight the things that you have tried/tested?

Have you tried a re-install of the OS, latest drivers, skeleton setup outside of the case (just 1 stick memory, gfx, cpu), have you tried a different PSU in your rig etc...

Also, could you list your entire spec.

Unfortunately, as listed above, we need a lot more information. However, if you're absolutely 100% certain that it's the MB at fault then all of the above is not required as you don't need to understand or identify the actual MB fault for the RMA (only that it is at fault) - that will be the manufactures job.

EDIT: Sorry i have another question: When you installed the 260 how did the problem first present itself and has it changed at all during the troubleshooting process? (I would especially like to know the brand, spec and age of your PSU and whether you have tried your mates PSU in your system.)

well first of all tryed one ram stick and diffrent setups with all the ram sticks, psu is a 650 watt from alienware erm and 3 years old. tryed diffrent cpu psu gpu and out of the board and as for not working it wont post on the lcd poster all it does is count up and nothing else happens, the fans spin on every.

well as for when the problem started even with the 4650 it would olny work somtimes and now it wont work at all with any gpu but i have tested all of the parts in my mates rampage so all the other parts do work

I7 920 do stepping
alienware psu 650 watts
bfg 260 ocx
asus rampage exstreme
OCZ Reaper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 tri-channle 1800mhz

Christ, you really have tried almost everything.

So you’ve:

  • Run a skeleton setup outside of the case to rule out shorting.
  • Tried a different CPU in your system
  • Tried a known working PSU in your system
  • Tried a different GPU in your system
  • Tested all of your components in another PC – and all function as normal.

Did you try different memory in your system? (I’m guessing you probably have as you’ve been very thorough and fortunate with the test components you had to hand.)

Did the problems exactly coincide with the introduction of the 260 or were you starting to get hints of a problem before it was installed?

Regardless of your answer to the last question if you’ve done all the tests you’ve detailed (including the memory) then your initial diagnosis seems, on the surface, to be correct.

As to diagnosing the actual MB fault - that still can’t be definitively answered – but as mentioned before it’s not necessary for the RMA. The only thing they require is a description of the fault, your complete spec (including OS) and the troubleshooting process that you followed that led you to the conclusion that the MB is at fault.

Additional: The only thing i would add, if you haven't done it 100 times already, is clearing the CMOS (removing the battery for half an hour). And if by some minor miracle you do get into the BIOS - i would try and flash to the latest version.

well with the 650 it would olny work now and again and after put the 260 in nothing at all.

Yes did try diffrent ran cpu in my board and ran everything out of the case(never been in the case),

all the parts i tested with were from mates pc basicly same as mine but with 260sli and 1000watt psu and his works fine and all my parts work in/with his.

Reading the above and taking into account your other posts i think you've pretty much ruled out every other component (other than one of those 1 in a million faults that can't be legislated for.).

As a last throw of the dice, if you haven’t done so already I would try the following:
  • Try your mates PSU in your rig
  • Clear the CMOS and if you manage to get into the BIOS flash to latest release.
  • Try different leads (sata cables, kettle lead, etc - although a skeleton setup would rule most of these out)
  • Try a different power socket and extension lead if your using one.

If you've done all of the above, along with all your other comprehensive tests, then you’re as sure, as you can be, that the MB is at fault.

Most people haven't got access to a complete second set of components for troubleshooting purposes so, hopefully, your RMA will be pretty straightforward.

Asus have apparently got their act together in recent weeks – and claim that RMAs are taking approx 7 days. - it would be interesting to hear how you get on.

Good luck.
