asus sata setup

just got a an asus an8 sli ,could anyone help with installing xp .in the box for mobo theres no floppy but seems drivers are on cd .
with my previous an7 i simply pressed f6 during setup to install the sata driver,
has this now changed,read somewere you can use the nvidia driver or silicon image driver ,is this right .any help appreciated

You have to unzip the Raid drivers to a floppy form the installation CD.
Not so easy if you don't already have another PC up and running.

You dont need sata drivers if not raiding to get xp installed. Just install XP the put on mobo drivers etc. The IDE SWE drivers then convert IDE to SATA in device manager if I remember from 2 weeks ago

Yep, I think the SATA drivers are for a RAID setup.

Does that mean Device Manager is supposed to show the drives as being SATA somewhere? Mine doesn't. Just shows IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

If I remember right it will show that until you download the drivers from nvidia for the motherboard. But dont download the firewall as its unstable.

Ah.. not an nvidia board so perhaps that why device manager doesn't show anything as sata

Its an Asus A8n SLI which uses the Nvidia Nforce 4 drivers

Yeah I understood that. I meant that mine isn't an nvidia board. It's an ATI 3200 Crossfire m/board and uses Silicon Image SATA. I was just curious because in my device manager there is no mention of SATA at all, and I wondered whether perhaps I had missed setting something up properly.

Its depends if your looking at using raid mate, if your just using one Sata drive then you should just proceed as normal. If you are looking to raid you will need to get hold of another pc to unzip the raid drivers to floppy for windows setup (thats the part where you hit F6 In windows setup).

Another thing, if you intend on running any PATA drives, add that once windows setup is complete fgs! its quite fiddly when it comes you using Sata as primary, and Pata as storage in some cases. (though an easy fix for all you boffins out there - just adding that before im flamed
